Re: x7 built pbu problems

Whats wrong with that tranny? It's the only tranny that works on the X7. I've Only been able to get one of those drums off anyother time I had no luck with it. I think a guy can take a big socket with some rods welded on to the sides of the socket that fit into the holes that are in the clutch drum and use a impact wrench.

Re: x7 built pbu problems

yeah if your plug is black and gunky then its way too rich. you need to lean it out about 1 full turn. and go from there. your plug should be a coffee brown color.

Yes it's way to rich and sounds like it's flooding. Hell you might want to just reset the carb to 2 3/4 turns out. What 2-stroke oil and mixture are you using?

Re: x7 built pbu problems

Sounds like you over tightened the clutch bolts and smashed the wave washers. Just loosen them alittle. Did you use a impact wrench to tight them? It's best to tighten them by hand. Or did you put the washers on the backside of the clutch shoe arms? It should go washer, clutch, wave washer, bolt.

Are you running a 17:1 dome for that high of octane?
17:1 is 114 octane and up or alcolhal
15:1 105 to 110 octane
13:1 reg pump gas

i over tightened them i lost one wave washer so i replaced it with very thin washers that make up for them its working so far. im running 15:1 compression. now when i tune do i only tune the high screw? or both 1/4 at a time at the same time. the bike only goes 34 and very slowly gets there

Re: x7 built pbu problems

You can get wave washers at a hardware store. You got the HP carb on now and not the stock carb? How did you get your speed or what speedo are you using? If your using a schwinn speedo than they only go to 34mph.

To tune the carb warm the motor and turn the idle up some. Now turn the L screw to the left until it starts to chuttering than turn the L screw to the right until the idle gets fast but keep turning to the right until it starts to chug than turn it back to left to where the idle gets fast smooth again listen carefully. Adjust the Idle to your liking. I like to adjust the idle by raising the rear wheel than adjust the idle until the back wheel starts to spin than I turn the idle down to just before the wheel start to spin which is just before the clutch engages. Now it's time to tune the H screw. Give it a ride to WOT and see hows she running. Than turn the H screw to the left a 1/8th turn ride again to WOT stop adjust a 1/8th ride to WOT and do this until it start to sputter at WOT or until the acceleration starts to suffer than turn it to the right a 1/8th of a turn.

Re: x7 built pbu problems

For the scraping noise check the coil and make sure it didn't come loose or to low and check to see if the clutch bolt has come loose or where it's rubbing. 34 mph I think thats your speedo. try going down a hill and see if it goes any faster down hill the speedo that is. Have you ever checked the throttle housing for the governer?

Re: x7 built pbu problems

I wasn't talking a big hill just a hill that you should pickup some more speed on just so you can see if your speedo goes higher. But yes it's safe for the motor. Take the plastic cover off the gas tank and look where the fuel lines come out of the tank and see if the lines are kinked there. You may of pulled the fuel line when you was working on the carb. Also check and see if the vent hole in the gas cap isn't plugged.
