Do I need new Clutch shoes?

One of the clutch shoe clip/washer came off and kind of scratched up the shoe pads. From attached pictures. Do you think I need a new clutch shoes? Is it a good idea to just sand it down and use it again? What do you think is the best thing to do? What would you recommend?

If that was my bike, I wouldn't worry about those shoes. I don't see anything to be gained from sanding them. The gouges will disappear with a bit of wear. Good pics, BTW.

What I would be more concerned with is how the clutch drum looks. If that isn't perfectly smooth, it will wear your shoes very quickly. If a clip got caught between the shoe and the drum, it could have damaged it.

I have had limited success resurfacing a clutch bell. I took an M8 bolt of the same thread as the pinion, and fed it through the inside until snug. Then I stuck the end of the bolt into a drill. I used some sandpaper to restore the finish of the drum. Keep in mind that you can only go so far; past 80.5mm and I throw away my clutch drums.

Thanks for the help. I really appreciated. When I open the clutch housing there is no clip inside. I only see the washer. I think the washer got caught between the shoes and the drum that's why the shoes are kind of scratched up. I think I am lucky. The clutch drum is till very smooth when touch. See pics.

I have another question. I am having a hard time trying to push the clutch shoe back down. You could see from the pics i posted earlier. Do I need a special tool?

You will have to remove the spring to slide the shoe back on. To do this, you will need a set of digital measuring calipers. Measure the spring length, remove the spring by loosening the allan-headed setscrew, then fix the clutch. Clutch setup is absolutely critical; you have to be precise to .05 of a millimeter so that all 3 shoes engage at the same time.

I myself would run it the bell doenst look bad and if you say its smooth to the touch as long as it doesnt ahve any deep scratchs or grooves it should be ok and the clutch is ok IMHO too

Just to play it safe I would take the clutch off just to make sure the clip isn't hiding in there somewhere.

Thanks for the advice. Which way should I turn to lose the nut that hold the clutch. Is it counterclockwise to lose the nut?

Counterclockwise. You will likely need to use a puller. Definitely DO NOT pry it off, or you will throw the crank off center and cause big time problems.

I have a 5-ton 3-Jaw puller. I think I will use that. Thanks.

you need a small harmonic balancer puller with some long metric bolts to get that off with it will save you a headache over trying to use your 3 jaw . iot will also work onthe flywheel
