Exclamation I need your help!!! Do I sell all and buy this Polini???

After spending the best part of £2000 ($3500) on chinese pocket bikes, I have decided to sell all of my new Blata parts and C1 parts and buy a new Polini 910 Carena S (see pic)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...rena_S_blu.jpg

I am going to buy the 6.2 LC version.

I wanted to ask you guys what you think I should do. I have bought a C1 (blata origami replica) and bought the following mods for it (which put together, cost me more than the cost of the new 910 Carena S!!!)

Dell'Orto PHVA 17.5mm carb
Polini throttle cable
Blata origami inlet & baffle
Blata air filter
Blata origami reed block
Ceramic coated origami cylinder (care of Trevor Sellars)
flat top piston (redesigned unit)
high compression head
Blata stuffed race crank
Blata C4 crank bearings and seals
Blata clutch drum (complete)
PMT T41's
Complete blata water pump system
Blata origami flywheel
Blata origami hoses
Blata water reservoir and cap
Polini "Domino" quick action throttle
Billet alloy chain adjustors

Basically, I have spent a fortune on parts to build this bike, but have a nagging feeling that I am wasting my money. I didn't consider that the re-sell value of my bike when completed will be next to nothing (a third of the total spent would be the max I think, if I am lucky)

The question is, "do I pull out now, sell all of the parts and the bike as stock and buy the Polini 910 Carena S?" (I will keep the tyres though)

I am quite tall (6 foot 4 inches), but very light, so I know that the 910 won't be as big as a Midi, but I have seen the 910 and think that I will fit Ok.

I am attracted to the fact that Polini parts are so available and very inexpensive and that Blata parts take ages to get, and are almost twice the price of Polini parts.

What are you opinions guys? I sure could do with a bit of help here. I don't want to waste yet more money.

I know that my B1 rep will be a great bike when finished - and very fast too, but it is going to cost me another £250 to finish, and even then, I will end up with a bike that has cheap Cag wheels.... The other thing of course, is that with the B1 replica, I will be in the Supers. I have seen these guys go and they are so fast. I don't that I will be able to keep up. I think that the Proddys will suit me much better.

I think that I am doing the right thing going Polini, even if I am gonna lose a bit right now.

Anyway, your thoughts are welcomed and appreciated.

James.

James,

The polini will be more reliable and easier to get spares for but I fairly sure that It will not be as quick as your B1 rep fitted with all of those mods.

The 6.2 will be a nice bike, very flexible for casual track use but under powered against the 8.5's for serious use.

The Polini is going to handle way better than that B1 rep but you're not the shortest of people and the B1 is that touch bigger.

Its a hard decision but you've come so far with your B1 that it almost seems criminal not to finish it.

Why not do some overtime and get both?!!

I know you have been aquiring many parts. The thing that dawned on me the other nite , was that you are really close to owning an origima. You can order a frame and engine cases, the wheels aren't a big deal, just swap the bearings. Ask Trev to keep an eye out for a frame and engine cases for you, he might have an engine case he is willing to part with,I can understand your frustration. Polini parts are quicker to get, no doubt about it.

Or find out if trev will sell the B2 to you without a motor, just engine case, i am pretty sure he would do this, saves him from having to install another motor

thanks for the advice.

I spoke to Trev the other day and he has just sold his B2. I had the chance to buy it, but at that time was still totally into finishing my project.

Buying the frame sounds like a good idea and the cases shouldn't be too hard to get. Yeah, it makes some sense to just spend some more and end up with what I should have bought to begin with. It is all fun and games!

I will make a few calls this afternoon and see what I can find out.

Thanks again, James.

i didn't know he sold the b2, some one got one hell of a bike, even if the motor was swapped from the original one.
Keep word out that you are looking for the frame and cases, you know the spots to look already , they will turn up, maybe not right away but some one will have em, good luck

I am sorry that you spent so much on a chinese replica but I guess you live and learn. Given your height I would suggest a trellis style frame in either a DM, GRC or a ZPF. All are good bikes and a little bigger than the 910 you are thinking about. These bikes are not quite as big as the b1 but are bigger than the 910. I would try to salvage as many parts from your c1 project as possible and then sell the rest for what you can get for it. Also stick with trevor, he knows his poop and wont steer you wrong. Frank

I had a Polini 910 6.5 w/c and I am 6ft. 165lbs and I was able to ride the bike with ease. You get used to the smaller chassis and the 910 rails quite well I must admit. I loved it but like another rider said it is somewhat under powered if you plan on racing it in the Production class. If your just into riding parking lots and casual track time then go for it. The Polini is a nice reliable machine bar none in my opinion and the new Type S body is sweet..

Thanks for all of the input. I have decided to complete my project (mostly as an Origami, rather than a Replica)

Thanks again,
James.

with all the trick parts you have james you are going to have one hell of a screaming origima. With the parts you have aquired i would say your bike is far from a replica.
Can't wait to see it completed

you also gained intimate knowledge of how your bike works, not many people can say they built their blata from scratch. You learned how every part goes together and you sourced out all the top parts
