Setting up GPT tach

I just got a used GPT tach. It doesn't have any model numbers, but its the red, 4-button model commonly seen for minimoto applications. I figured out how to get the rpm read and max rpm, but can anyone tell me how to set the clock? When the unit is switched off, it runs as a conventional timepiece. The owners manual on the GPT site doesn't tell me anything about the clock function.

As an aside, my Polini wants to idle at around 3600rpm. Is that normal? It's set right, because it says the clutch is engaing with me on it at about 8900.

Re: Setting up GPT tach

I picked up that same tach used to But mine turns off after a few minutes after being on which sucks. So how do you get the max rpm read? My polini idles at 2200 rpm's but every motor is different. I have the idle screw all the way in and the cable adjusters at both ends of the cable maxed out and still coulden't get it up any higher doing that.

Re: Setting up GPT tach

Hi 2bamp, all I can suggest (if noone comes back to you is PM my bud here in SA, "andrewdn") as he had one of those units before upgrading to a GPT D2.

Cheers

Re: Setting up GPT tach

link for the tach owners manual...RPM2001

http://www.gpt.it/racing%20time,%20p...peedometer.pdf

Digital Watch
The first operation is to set the digital watch, it will display hours, minutes and seconds in 24h format. To set
the time, push P2 without release it and push P3, at this time hours flashing set the correct time with P4,
the same for minutes and seconds (P3 >P4), after selected the minutes and seconds release P2 and the
set up is finish.
If you don’t want to display the watch, push P3 an P1 to restore the watch push again P3 and P1.

as far as it cutting off and locking up mine did this also, the only way to unlock it is remove the battery...I now have a small piece of plastic that I pull out and push in for on and off...this will reset it if it locks up.
I do not wrap the tach wire around the spark plug wire,I just push about a 1/8" of the tach wire between plug wire and the plug boot. Ever since I started doing this the tach has not locked up for me. Dont push it in too far and let it hit the metal in the boot....

not the best pics but I cut a slit in the case and have a thin piece of hard plastic that will slide between the battery and the place for the battery and kills the power.

Re: Setting up GPT tach

Thanks for your help with that. I have the exact same tach as you. Mine has no markings on it besides the GPT logo.
Good idea about sticking the lead under the plug cap. I'm going to put some heat-shrink tubing on the end of mine to prevent it from shorting onto the HT lead.
