airplane stripper,i think is what its called,go to advance auto parts, they have it,well i dunno if i would use it on plastic, what paint are you trying to take off and why?
Emery paper and elbow grease worked good for me, only took me about an hour to strip the whole thing right back to the white plastic.
Just don't forget to use a plastic primer before any painting or the paint just chips off with ease.
Whoa ....easy now, the panels(fairings) from China are more likely not ABS plastic or even urethane type, but some cheapy form of PVC, PFE, or even some crappy type of polyacrylic...so dont bother removing the paint that is already there!!! They, whomever "they" are has already had to deal with an adhesion promoter for that form/type of plastic, so that surface is covered well enough already. Consider the existing paint your canvas.
If you dont have deep scratches/gouges/and such just lightly scuff the surface with 600 grit to 1000 grit sandpaper, no matter whether wet or dry. Try not to miss a spot. Use paint thinner to wipe the dust off of the surface. Then prime the surface, minimum 3 layers/coats should be fine, be sure that the type of primer you use is the same type as the paint to be used.
well i didn`t mean on the fairings, thats why i asked what he was painting, lol i would just scuff up the paint thats already on there, clean it good then spray
Yeah, thats cool. Even if you did have a bare plastic surface, all you have to do is apply adhesion promoter and prep according to the type of plastic, either way its possible. But maybe I misunderstood as well.....regardless, I would digress from completely removing all of the paint from any surface, plastic or metal. BUT of coarse, like everything else, there are SOME reasons you should....but NOT here...
Black and blue for the base detail, then on the windscreen paint some silver/blue/and yellow fake lights. On the side of the fairing put the law enforcement medallion such as your city police's badge design. On the rear tail side, put "911", "To Protect and To Serve" underside the seat.
Why such detail? Well, if you get pulled over, just act as innocent as possible, admit "You didnt know" (NO matter your conviction), maybe that would be a good time to bring the bike up as a conversation piece to possibly ellude a citation?....
