Interesting paint job.

I have a half fairing cag and roll without a front fairing.(as you can see) I wanted to try this paint technique I saw on a T.V. show, It didn't turn out quite like on the show, but I still kinda like it. Tell me if you like it or not.
P.S.- PM me if you want to know how it's done

Re: Interesting paint job.

what is the second pic of??? it looks like a dirty peice of medal or something...

i like the two tone style...

what i would do now is get 2 of the same decal. one is silver and 1 in black and put the silver 1 on the black side and the black on the siver side...

nice job

Re: Interesting paint job.

The second pic is a close up of the paint job. The black is the factory black that the bike came in. I only did one side because I wanted to see the difference.

Re: Interesting paint job.

Whats special about it, i can barely even see anything. Put it on the bike with the finished product, that is the only way to tell.

Re: Interesting paint job.

Hmmm, yes, different...

Which was your method for the spotting?

It could look very cool...maybe with a different color combination, as well as contrast using a neutral tone of paint as primary, then multiple vibrant colors for the effects. Not throwing it down at all, but to me, for such a potentially vivid custom job like what you did should jump out and scare someone!!!!

LOL, I say go for it, do the whole bike... As for an "Icon" for the bike, have a large purple pill like Viagra painted on the fairing with the word "BIOHAZARD"...LOL! It would look like it has a disease, but look cool!!!

Re: Interesting paint job.

I first painted the white base coat and let it dry, then using a spray bottle I sprayed water on the fairing just enough to get the efect (takes a few practice tries to get what your looking for) Then I lightly sprayed the gold over the top of the water droplets, puting a box over afterwards to protect the drying paint and water from the wind. After completly dry, there might be little bits of paint sticking up from the surface, just lightly wipe them off to get that final effect. And a clear coat should be applided especly if your going to mask/tape the area off for further painting.

Another color combination I tried.

As you can probaly see I kinda over did it on the spraying of the water.
But this time it gave more of a dripping water effect. (what I was looking for)

Re: Interesting paint job.

I didn't do the whole bike after all. I came up with a better color scheme. I was thinking about buying another seat fairing and front fender to test out this paint technique on another set so I could switch out which ever one I prefer.

My new paint job I am in the procese of making invovles Ultra-flat Black and what Krylon calls lemon yellow (really bright yellow). It's going to have dual racing stripes down the middle and industrial like yellow stickers saying "no step" and "caution hot exhast" plus a little led and neon wire action going on .

I'm also painting the frame the same lemon yellow.

The spotting technique would look a lot better on a f/f bike
(more to work with)

Re: Interesting paint job.

I know the effect your going for. When done it CAN look fantastic, I think you need to use two colors that really stand apart ie Black and white Black and ??? Using black as the top coat. I really don't feel that it's a good Idea for white and yellow, white and tan etc etc. I can't remember who said it, but a custom paint job like that should jump out and bite you right in the junk, just grabbing your complete attention and drawing you in for a better look. I think your should experiment a bit on some scrap paper or metal, find two colors that really stand out and go for it just trying on something you don't have to sand down later. I am and always have been a black and red fanatic or black and blue(light blue). I really like the idea and hope you find something that works, I just don't like your choice in colors(MHO) Then again it's always hard to tell in pic's.

just my 2 cent's

Re: Interesting paint job.

Your probably right reptillian, two colors with more contrast would probably look better. I'm thinking yellow/blue or blue/orange.
(base coat/top coat)

I might try this later, but my pocket bike is in piecies all over my room. I'm in the process of putting on a 44mm head kit, 3rd bearing support and a lightend fltwheel on. Plus am also painting everything (frame+wheels+fairings)
But without that technique and other scheme as stated above. (I change my mind to much) I only use spray paint becase it's cheap and me have no money.

Re: Interesting paint job.

its very creative but just like my car i hate water spots!!! (doesnt mean the paint job is bad, I just might have slight OCD because i hate the little spots)

I think the red looks way better then the black too

But anyways i think it's really creative and its a good unique style so I would give it an A in that way.

Re: Interesting paint job.

If you figure out what side your shadow of the rain drop is on and put a darker tint of the body color on the shadow side and then mix a lighter tint for the top reflection side and shoot either color horizonal to the piece you will get a much greater effect. You need to do this effect while the rain drop is still wet also.

I hope I explained that some what. If you have accessto cnady colors a top coat of whatever candy will also make that effect really pop.
