x19 frame help

i want to paint my frame for my x19 flat black. would i have to sand the frame down at all or can i just spray it down with flat black spray paint? same question for the wheels if i were to paint it either glossy black or flat black how would i go about doing this?

also, anyone know what super bike the x19 is supposed to mimic? GSX-r or cbr, etc)

Re: x19 frame help

I see nobody ever replied to this thread lol, if you havent painted it already you need to sand it down first with grit sand paper, prime paint then clear coat.

Re: x19 frame help

i'm no pocket bike expert but i do know a little about painting. If i were you, i'd just wipe the frame down (removing any dirt, grease, oil, etc) then sand it down to remove some of the old paint. Then you can go over it with a lighter sand paper to remove any imperfections from the last step.

Next i'd wipe it down again with a paint thinner (do not touch the frame after this step, the oil on your finger tips will affect the paint once you spray it). Then just go ahead and spray your first coat. This should be a light coat, doesn't even need to cover the whole frame in fact.

Wait maybe 30 min and go about spraying the rest of frame in however many layers you'd like to do.

im pretty sure someone said they have lead in the paint so you will have to take paint stripper to it.

Re: x19 frame help

you dont need to sand it down, same goes for the rims, all you gotta do is make sure the rims are clean, which means takin sum steel wool and scrubbin it really good. I had to cuz my has sum years on it, and i had to get rid of all dirt and grease from the chain.

Re: x19 frame help

you dont need sanding unless there are imperfections in the frame like scratches and scrapes.

BUT flat black is not very good quality especially if ur about to rattle can it. even if you put on lots of layers it scratches easy and rubs off with chronic friction. ive only done it once to a bike but we flat blacked my buddies vette.... def not a good idea

Re: x19 frame help

The paint the chinese used on the frames is lead based paint...be careful if youre gonna sand it down...On my project X-181 Naked Streetfighter I stripped off all the lead based paint ,primed with duplicolor prime and sanded it baby smooth with super fine steel wool...I went with R1 Yamaha Blue for my frame color.I went with flat black on my 01 Banshee and it started coming off on lots of spots within 2-3 rides..The flat black is lasting better on my standup scooter,mini-minibike and X100 dragbike so far..Any flat base paint is porus paint and offers very little protection against fast rust bleeding through unless you sand the shine off the lead based paint on the frame and is used as a primer. The best coating that offers the best protection is powdercoating if you want the flat look .The rhino -lining for pickup truck beds is another good coating.....Peace
