Re: Gearing Question

You could try leaving the stock gearing and changing the clutch springs to stiffer ones for a higher takeoff rpm to see if that will work better for you but if you want change gearing get a 6 tooth pinion...That will be plenty but be prepared to go atleast 2-3mphs slower on the top end...Peace

is the more teeth on the sprockets more speed or more accelleration?

Re: Gearing Question

More teeth on the rear sprocket = more acceleration ,less top speed.

I wouldn't recommend running a 6 tooth front sprocket, from my experience they add allot of stress to your chain, which means your chain wont last as long. The 7 tooth front front sprocket is allot less stress on your chain.

I run 7 front and 66 rear on both my bikes, one of my bikes is a mostly stock 49cc and the other bike is a 2 piece high compression 5 port head setup. But both run about 32-33 mph with decent low end power.

I would suggest a 7 front and a 70 something rear sprocket for better acceleration, less top end speed.

Also by adding more teeth you will have to think about buying a longer chain, depending on how much room you have for adjustment with your setup as it is now.

Re: Gearing Question

For gearing, Cags do well with the 1-to-10 rule. One tooth on the pinion equals ten(ish) on the sprocket. Pretty much anything in the 7/70 range will do ya fine, like 7/74, 7/76.

How big a sprocket can you put on these things, anyway? Always wondered about that, and what the biggest one was .... Can you imagine the torque you'd get outta the thing?
