Red face California girl entering the pocket bike world!!

Hey hey...so I am a 26 year old female that is pretty new to pocket bikes. I have always wanted to have a pocket bike just never took the leap, until now. I have a friend that was just going to throw away a bike so I said I would take it. The only problem, and its a big one, is that it does not start and idk where to even begin. I see all this stuff about 50cc and 49cc?!? How do I know what the motor is on this one. He only said something about it being two stroke. There is not a pull starter on it and a bunch of wires. LOL This sounds pretty bad as I read it over!! I would love to get it running. BUT I NEED HELP!! Will someone please guide me!!!

Welcome to the forums, UseCaution.

You can use an image hosting site like PhotBucket, upload your pictures there, and then post the links here.

Re: California girl entering the pocket bike world!!

You can't post pictures right now so go to photobucket like SpyGuy said and upload there :P Then post the link. You could send it to my email as well, jtnktz@hotmail.com and I could host it and post here :P

Yeah, one of the forum rules is that new users can't upload pictures directly to the site until they have like five posts or something. I just use PhotoBucket - makes it a lot easier.

"Aaaand the survey says ..." Okay, that looks like a Cateye, 49cc. Justin, help the girl out - you got one. Sorry I can't help out with the wiring, never had one, so I don't know what to tell you .......

Several of our other member have Cateyes, too, so you'll be able to get plenty of help, mostly over in the 2-Stroke Midbike section.

Re: California girl entering the pocket bike world!!

I would start with a pull start. You can get it from: Super Pocket Bikes > X1 Super Pocket Bike > Stock Parts - Part Name: Pull Start - A

Also correct me if I am wrong but is it missing the flywheel too?

Re: California girl entering the pocket bike world!!

Brain fart, no it's not missing the flywheel wrong side. :P The first step I guess would be to get it running!

Do you want to keep the electrical? Most like to throw it out to save on weight. The wiring is not needed to run the engine. But you DO need the 2 wires coming from the engine as these are your kill switch wires so don't cut those!

Re: California girl entering the pocket bike world!!

In that case go ahead and remove all wires except the killswitch wires like mentioned above. Do not cut! Just zip tie them so they are out of your way. Put the wires that come out to the side. This will give a much cleaner look. I would go ahead and order a pull start. If you have eBay go there, it's cheapest just make sure it will fit a 49cc engine!!! It looks as if you may need to go to a local hardware store to purchase bolts to screw it in as well.

Re: California girl entering the pocket bike world!!

so blots for the pull starter right? okay I can do that....another thing I noticed is that the rear chain seems to not want to fit on the back sprocket....there is a certain size one that should be on the back tire? Also is the picture with all the wires there is a little cylinoide (sorry I am really bad at spelling) thing that they are connected to...do I need that?
