Re: clutch upgrade? what to do

The X-7 has a steel clutch so going to a lighter aluminum clutch will make it engage a little later. By the way the aluminum clutch weights 40% lighter than the steel clutch. Than I would either lighten the aluminum clutch even more by drilling 4 holes into the clutch or putting on a heavier spring on it.

thanks stray, now what about putting a stronger spring on my current clutch? or would getting the alluminum one and stiffer spring b the best combo?

what type of difference can i expect from this?

Re: clutch upgrade? what to do

You know I never tried a stronger spring on the steel clutch but with that said PBU is the only place that has a stronger spring for the steel clutch. The Black magic spring is for the aluminum clutch and they are 2 different size spring and aren't interchangable.

When you go to a lighter aluminum clutch with a heavier spring it will engage at a higher rpm there for it will help the bottom end without hurting the top end.

oh ok, the clutch on PBU is the one i was actually looking at. onestly what set-up should i go with cause i want a clutch setup thats going to help alot with acceleration and keep a good top end speed. is the aluminum with stiffer spring(black magic) the way to go?

Re: clutch upgrade? what to do

No do not get that clutch from PBU you can get the same clutch from ebay for less than half of what PBU charges for their aluminum clutch. It's just a stock clutch for a X1 or X-2.

I would do it. It should go good with what you have already done to your bike and with the few things your still thinking about doing.

43-52cc SCOOTER POCKET BIKE SKATEBOARD BOOST BOTTLE - eBay (item 390046635518 end time May-23-09 20:38:03 PDT)
single boost bottle that i will tap into my billet manifold with? can i do that or does it have to b the stock composit type manifold?

would u happen to have a link to a clutch on ebay? casue im pretty sure this is the one ive already got?

Yes that boost bottle will be fine to use and yes you can tap into your aluminum intake manifold. But if you have a dremal I would gasket match the manifold cause they are alittle smaller the the intake opening in the cylinder if not maybe sometime down the road. Unless you have a different intake manifold thank one of the stock aluminum intake manifold that I'm think of. Can you maybe post a link to the one you have?

Well unless someone replaced the stock clutch or motor in your X-7 it is a steel clutch. Which is just like the heavy duty clutch in that link you posted. If your not real sure it maybe worth it to take the tranny off and check. Plus if your going with a heavier spring I would go with the Black magic spring at DDM.
Here's a better deal on that clutch.

Re: clutch upgrade? what to do

I'm alittle amazed you didn't need some help getting your stock clutch off. Which tells me you can handle just about all mods throw at you which is a good thing.

So did you loose any of the top speed switching to the 14 tooth front sprocket? Or was it so small that you didn't notice because you got there faster?

Well you pretty much have all the bolt on's other than a Fatty pipe or Boost Bottle. You can either lightening your aluminum clutch or go with the heavier spring. Do you have a dremal that you can port match the end of the exhaust and gasket to your exhaust port. Or you could do away with the choke in your 603 and get a choke plate to open up the carb and let it breath in more air. You can lower your squish by removing the base gasket and just use a copper RTV sealer or motoseal. If you really don't care about having lights and a electric starter you can remove the starter wingings that are behind the pull starter. I'm sure I'll think of a few more but here's some to think about anyways.

haha well thanks stray, im very good at automechanics and cars are my life so im pretty good at this stuff, i do whole transmission swaps on my own.

but for the bike, its lke what u said its gets up there so much faster thats idk if i lost anything plus im running too much oil (25:1) so im sure thats killin it just a bit, next gallon will b 32:1 to try that.

yea im still looking at the getting the pipe and the boost bottle set-up. i actually read about lightening my clutch but i dont have or know anyone with a drill press though i do have a dremel with all the attachments. is the heavier spring going to b something worth it, cause it'll give me some more aceleration correct?

and what is the port matching for my exhaust and what will it do for my bike? is the port off the head larger then on the exhaust?
also what is the squish? and base gasket do u mean between the head and case? i also might remove the choke like u said casue i never use the thing.

yesterday i was actually thinking about removing all my electrical but kinda like the ability to have the lights n such but maybe ill change my mind.

Re: clutch upgrade? what to do

so i was looking at choke plates and its something different than i though, i actually have one the guy gave me with the bike but its just in my spare parts box. i thought it was somethin to block the hole where the choke lever goes through on the carb
