c1 noob questions

Please assist, just become an owner of a slightly battered c1... and need some advice..

1.) How do you change a tyre without damaging the rim.. ?

2.) The only upgrade carb i can get is a 9mm carb, is this better than the 14? How do i set it up and what jets should I try?

3.) Is a big bore kit a good upgrade or is it not nessasary.. I need to go up from 6hp to 8hp to be competitive in my race class.

4.) I have no experience on working on an engine, but Im pretty technical, how do I port a motor and will it be difficult?

5.) Anyone ever heard of a AL AOLI motor??? Any good?? Weak points??

thanks Dave

Re: c1 noob questions

#1 Small tire spoons, Then take something like a 2-liter bottle, or some other thin plastic, And cut it so you can lay it under where the spoons will contact the rim..

#2 you must be talking about a 19mm carb? The stock carb is a replica Dellorto SHA14/14mm.

#3 - Sure, But read richards HOW-TO It was superb, with pictures and everything.

#4 - For the most part, port matching the ports on the cylinder to the case would be good, and either open the reed area (with a Dremel or other tool) Or add a Reed Spacer So the reeds can open more, It's kinda tight stock.

#5 - Chris from Badazztoyz used to not like them, But I don't remember why.

Any other questions?

I'd be glad to help!

Nick.

Re: c1 noob questions

Yes, sorry it's a 19mm carb.. are they any good? Hard to set up?

I also need to see if there is anything wrong with my clutch..if really slips alot and I have to rev it high into the powerband to pull off, the bike dies as soon as I go off the throttle ( which the previous owner said is normal because you have to keep the bike near the power band) which is going to make it hard to race.. Does it take a while to get used to it?

Also wanted to know, my front sprocket just falls out if I take the little cover off, should I loctite it in, or is something wrong or missing??

ps. thanks for the info, really appreciated.

Re: c1 noob questions

Yes the 19mm PHBG's are pretty good, just keep in mind it is a multi-meter carb, It will have an Idle jet, Choke jet, And a Main jet, so it can get tricky, but once it's setup right it will be quite a difference.

For your pinion, It sounds like it's the slot type, they use the slot type and the screw type, If you do have the slot type, it is supposed to have a snap ring on the inside of the bell to hold the pinion in, pull the pinion, bring it and the bell (cover) with you to a hardware store, and pick out a snap ring or two that will fit.

While it *IS* supposed to wait till it revs really high to take off, It's *NOT* supposed to die when you let off the throttle, How does the bike idle?

If you're up to it, and have some calipers, measure the springs on the clutch, they should be somewhere close to 21mm.

And you are VERY Welcome!

Nick.
