Talking C1 project

Well I've decided to see for myself what performance I can get from a c1 and from a few chinese copy performance parts.

I have bought a rather badly looked after 2nd hand c1. Plans include the usual cosmetic improvements. However I will also be trying my hand at some engine work. Planned performance mods include.

Triple reed kit.
Zocci copy performance pipe.
Big bore kit.
19mm deltoro carb.
Engine work (Porting, polishing etc.)

I have found a great resource from richardt on how to fit a big bore it. I would also like to port and polish the head. If anyone knows of any good post thats show how to do it, or if you guys have any tips on the build that could improve performance or reliability, all will be very much appreciated.

I have little experience with motor and performance mods so any advice (preferablely in plain engilsh) will help.

I will be posting pics and posts as I go along...let see how it goes.

Re: C1 project

My advice? Don't go crazy with the porting. Just carefully match ports to the case without creating thick and thin spots in the port. Remove dags in the ports but leave the surfaces rough throughout the intake area. Polish your exhaust port if you can get to it. To run a 19mm you will need to use a reed spacer or else open up the reed area a little to get the required reed lift.

Re: C1 project

Thanks for the advice. Think you may be right. Planning on opening the motor to change the bearings so should have access to everywhere I have too. Just wanted to know, why should I keep the intake rough? Also how would I port match? How do I spacer the reeds? Sorry this is all new to me..

Re: C1 project

You keep the intake area rough so the fuel/air mix stays mixed, too smooth and it will bead up like water down glass.

Port matching, Pop the cylinder down on to each half of the case one side at a time, and look up from the bottom at how the transfer ports line up with the cuts in the case, Like in the picture I'll attach. (Sorry about the picture quality it's hard to get a proper shot of the area in question)

A reed spacer is made out of plastic, metal, rubber, or just about anything else, trace the bottom of the reed cage on to some paper to make a diagram, then cut up some 5mm thick material and place it onto/under the reed cage to "Space" it out so the reeds can lift more.

Nick.

Re: C1 project

Thanks a mill Nick... I'm starting to get an idea of where to start now!! I also have a standard c1 with a 19mm carb, would it be an idea to space the reeds on it even though the reeds are standard?

Re: C1 project

Also, the carb has to be fitted at a serious angle due to the exhaust... do have any ideas how to get around the problem... ???

Re: C1 project

I didn't really worry about it that much. I just left it on a slight angle and let the top of the choke melt on the exhaust. You don't really need the choke anyways, jus get some one to squeeze the air filter if it won't start. It might put your float level out and it might not but you can adjust that anyway if you need to.

Re: C1 project

Regarding the reeds the answer is yes. If you take a look at where the reeds are sitting inside the case, you can see there is only so much room for them to open before they hit the case. I think that they are designed for a maximum 17.5mm carby. If you fit a 19mm carb you will still have a bottle neck in this area and you won't get the full benefit from your carby upgrade.

I just cut up an old reed cage and used the base as a spacer. I think it was 3.5mm, looked like enough to me.

Re: C1 project

i would do blata carbon fiber reeds not the triple stage. also the spacer is a good idea but cutting the case were the reeds hit a little gives a little more power than the spacer .frame looks good ! the PHVA del 19 fits this bike perfect room wise and has much better performance but requires the intake for that carb the PHBG intake wont fit. I have SKF bearings to fit these bikes they are some of the best you can get. Also stay awy from setting your squish as low as some people say on the forums .65 is a good number for these engins. good luck hit me up if you need any help or info.

Re: C1 project

Placed an order with Fun bikes in the uk... They said they only have carbon fibre reeds left so think I will be going that route...Unfortnately here in South Africa we don't have much choice. We only have a del copy 19mm carb here, that has to go on crooked in order to miss the pipe, think it will still improve the performance a bit.

Thanks for the info any help is greatly appreciated ... really want to see if I can use the c1 in 11hp class... will have to see what it will do.

you don't know how happy i am to hear that! i like how you took the time to get the frame powder coated, it will last for a long time over rattle-canning it. Not to mention, orange is one of my favorite colors.
i have a brand new z1 (zpf rep) sittin in a the box still. i bought it in the beginning of the summer and was gonna start swappin out everything. unfortunatley, that is when i got the news that my lil brother was killed in afghanistan. i pretty much lost interest in everything for awhile and now i'm just gettin back into it.
so yeah, keep the build goin, and keep us posted. hopefully, i can even get some ideas from you.

by the way, what color do you plan on doing the plastics and are you gonna do any kind of graphics?

Re: C1 project

I posted this on the topic regarding the German C1 but I thought you guys might have some input too....!

I've got a few question's for you guys...

The engine on the German C1 from pocket-fighter.de looks different from other C1 engines I've seen, for example some have a water pump running off the front pinon/sprocket?...

http://www.pocketbikesunlimited.com/...ornet-50cc.jpg
http://www.pocketbikesunlimited.com/...shee-motor.jpg

...but the German engine doesn't?

Can you guys explain the difference's, bad point's, bad point's etc, etc, any info would help, cheers...
