Re: best tools

I have had good experiences with Snap-On tools. They are a very well made tool indeed. For dealing with anything European and Asian for that matter, German tools are truly in a league of their own. Its likely you've never heard of them, as they are a well kept secret. Once you feel a German socket fit over a metric fastener, you wont want anything else.

I use Stahlwille Hazet and others, and gladly pay the prices with them

Re: best tools

Agreed, the German tools are far superior and not that well known. For instance, Beltzer allen keys are 70 bux a set and the last ones you'll ever buy. Unless they're stolen, because you you'll never lose them on you're own. Never buy china crap.

Re: best tools

I use Crafstman tools for the bike as well as my car, and never had a problem. If something happens, just have to go to the closest Sears and get a new one for free, no questions asked.

Snap-On is great, just too expensive for me

Re: best tools

Snap-on, Craftsman, and MAC tools for me, plus a DeWalt cordless drill and a Dremel.

It's great having a dad who's a mechanic - I get to play with ALL his tools! (Well, when I'm back that way, anyway - he's in californai, I'm in Arizona.)

Re: best tools

Depends on the tools. Snap-on hand tools are great but their air tools are garbage. IMHO Matco has the best quality to cost ratio.

Re: best tools

Where'd you order the T-handles from?

By the way, guys, a little tool y'all might be interested in: Several places I've been to, such as Ace Hardware and Sears, are selling a little 1/4" ratchet, with a socket on the opposite side for screwdriver bits. Perfect for getting into tight places (like those darned air cleaner screws!), and the ratchet is well-made. I highly recommend it.

Re: best tools

Ace has them, so does Sears ..... they are REALLY helpful. Also, those little ratchet finger-drives are pretty good, too.

Re: best tools

Hi again,
My advice is don't waste your money on expensive tools, this stuff is just for FUN!!! I can put the whole bike together w/ 2 screw drivers, 2
Allen Wrenches, and a few hand Wrenches!!! I got the electric ..........
wrench cause I am old!!! I just order a Skil table top Drill Press, with
Lazer for 100 dollars, 3 for s/h, & tax, it is a Refurb. but it is Factory!!

Re: best tools

EPR, when I purchase tools, it's not JUST for the bike - I have a couple of cars i work on, too, plus stuff I do around the house. When I buy a tool, it's not going to just be a single-purpose tool. I consider that an investment, not a waste of money. (And I'm probably older than you are ....)

$10K in machining tools? "GUYS, we got a machinist in the house! Anyone need custom parts?!?!"

Thanks for the tip on the Sears T handles .... will have to take a run by there sometime during the week. I like the Allen socket head look, myself ... guess I'm used to it by now.

Re: best tools

SpyGuy,
Yeah, T handles are sooo nice, My set has 8 pcs 2mm-10mm, & the
little ones look so long, I am going to cut 2" off the 2 same ones. I only
use 6,5,4 mostly! you can get a new 6 pcs set for under $30.
Got my engine two parts today, as soon as I assemble #2, I will take a
photo, they will be twins like my 4 1/2 year olds, and I turn 60 in Oct!!!
They look clean, Blue Heads- Black cylinders, & the aluminum 3rd Bearing
support clutch housing!! $32, comes w/ 7 tooth pinnion gear, has every-
thing but the clutch, it is real strong, My new drill press gets here Fri.....
Sat. I start boring carb 2, I run a V-stack taper bored 1"- .650, if you...
look the stack, carb. all the way it is like looking down a polished tube..
no edges! The exhaust port has been widened to match to hole in my..
pipe, clean smooth, no edges!! That's how you make HorsePower!!!!
My third Fav. tool is a small little set of Jewelers Files, they WORK..
GREAT on these Pocket Rockets!! I have 3 of the new V-stacks, and
the ones I did, the hole is to Big & in the middle, the carb. offset, it is
like putting your right shoe on your left foot, I am going to Bore Down
on the bottom part of the V-stack, till it matches the carb.!!! If you
want it done right you have to do it your self!!
Lastly, I think I am going to buy a new frame $70, minipocketrocket.
com, thats where I bought all my bikes, and all 3 were damaged,oh
the new frame, I don't want take my other one appart!!! EPR!

Re: best tools

Scooterparts4less.com's got frames for like $50, last time I looked .... Those 3rd bearings seem to have been giving people problems - throw the chain, and that pinion's gone, man ... i agree on smoothing out all the ports - the smoother you get them, the easier the intake and exhaust flow is, increasing horsepower. I do need to polish the v-stack a little more, get it and the carb lined up right ...

60? Okay, you're officially an old fart ... Makes me a young whippersnapper at 41 ....

Re: best tools

SpyGuy,
Yeah, about the 3rd B. when I first put it on the case I could feel the...
gear was binding, so I took off the cap, looked, and the hole are to wide,
so, I got out my rotory file/grinder-( Dremel tool ), I beleive you have one
& Oblonged the holes toward the center of the case, and problem solved!
I have 2 and the were both way off!!! If you buy this & do not do the....
the holes, the chain could come off cause it would overheat the outer
bearing!! This for any one who READS this, this stuff is made in China, I
inspect every PART!!!
All of my 4 engines have been gone over, heres another tool you need
a Metric Tap & Die Set, I got mine at NationalTools'com, $ 40, it has.....
everything even T. Drills!!!! Ever thread on my Engines has tap w/ tool
oil, Never Tap Dry, I had Chips All Over!!! I found a metric bolt place and
got a Bunch of Hex head bolts, and $4 box of SS Lockwashers, every....
bolt on my bike has one & sometimes Lock Tite too!!!
SpyGuy, on my motor mount I added another mount hole on the back
side, by 2, 1/4" holes, use your Dremel to hog out the center section!!
On, my #2 motor mount I will use all 5 holes on the eng. & a Brace from
the upper frame on the right side to the bolt that holds the ground, I...
Think that should hold it down!!! You need to file off the casting left
over, I finished everything on a Serface Plate, Even the Carb. Stuff!!
Hope that helps you guys out, cause all of us Racers need to stick together!!! I am old but I look like early 50's, & I only weigh 135 lbs so
you Know, Weight is your #1 Enemy to FAST!!! Got to GO! EPR!
