engine wont fire

so i got a 125 pitbike from a friend. not sure on the model, prolly some chinese rip off. anyway, he left in his back yard for a year, exposed to the elements. so when i recieved the bike, i drained the gas from carb and tank(it looked like icetea. cleaned the carb out mostly grit and what not, and cleared the jets. i then pulled the plug checked for spark, there was spark but the plug was pretty black. i put in fresh gas and kicked it over and nothing happened. i went thru the usual rutine of choke and what not and nothing. when i try to give it gas and it sounds hollow(only way i can explain it) but no fire. so i bought a new plug (ngk- i know but it was the only type they had) at cycle gear the plug was a cr6 and looked from where i was to be slightly shorter. but when side by side look similar in size, to the naked eye. so it sparks too, nothing to write home about, but it sparked. after installing, a few kicks and nothing. this isnt my first pitbike/horizontal/honda clone. i owned a couple of used mid bikes in the past, they didnt run when i got them and after doin the same thing to them they fired right up. what am i forgetting?
oh and i used the search button went thru a million threads with the same thing ive already done so maybe this is a unique problem. sorry so long of a post
