Re: fiberglass or carbon fiber?

CF is a little more forgiving than fiberglass, bends a little more ...

Re: fiberglass or carbon fiber?

I suppose neither one, really .... the stiffness of the reeds just provides a better seal for performance. Spped stuff would be carb, air cleaner and velocity stack, polished intake and exhaust, new pipe, lightened flywheel, different gearing, new clutch ...

Re: fiberglass or carbon fiber?

a thicker stiffer reed will produce more topend revs . however you can go to thick and it not open enough and cause a lean condition . a thinner more flexy reed will help out on the the bottomend . dont expect any of them to give you 5 mph its not gonna happen when i say a thicker reed produces more topend revs were talking around 600 rpms which is less than 1 mph difference . Best for most people to use is a carbon fiber reed from DDM . there simple to put in and work well

I've always been told since I was little that CF Reeds is the way to go, and that will be the route I'm gonna take. Like highsider said, they won't make a huge difference, but it's one of those things that are needed when you build a motor.

The carbon reeds will give you more and smoother top end. For a cag a two stage or triple stage will make a world of differents.

Re: fiberglass or carbon fiber?

I run CF reeds backed up with davation's triple stage reed mod ... works great, nice and smooth powerband, all the way through top end.

Re: fiberglass or carbon fiber?

Pretty much, you take the old stock tin reed, and cut it to resemble the top reed on a Black Widow set. (I used tinsnips to cut mine.) You then take that reed, and layer it over the top of your carbon fiber reed.

Assembly would be:
-reed stop
-modified reed
-CF reed
-reed block

All you're doing is installing a second reed over the top of the first one, but the top one is modified. Smooths out the powerband, and virtually eliminates top end reed flutter.

If you go to the air-cooled section, and look for davation's cheap triple stage reed mod, you'll find it in the mods section. If that doesn't work, do an advanced search, and look for threads started by davation.
