Its about $80.

where do you get an inch shorter belt? I just did this mod yesterday but didn't really get to test it out yet. has anyone tried it yet? Actually I test drove it a little bit. Couldn't really tell a huge difference except for the motor reving up higher? it seems to be a little unstable on WOT? Is it supposed to be like that? Also I tried taking out all of the weights and it seemed like the belt was totally slipping and barely moving the bike while revving up really high.

If you remove ALL of the weights, then there is nothing to PUSH the pullies closer together and it will slip constantly.

Guys;

Ok, I tested the CVT mod on my X2 today.

I had recently changed the rear sprocket from a 44T to a 54T and saw gains BOTH in accelleration and top speed.

With the flyweight mod (CVT) the acceleration was slightly better (very slight), but top speed was way down. About 7-8 mph (on the speedo).

It is my guess that when using 3 rollers instead of 4, there isn't enough total centrifical weight to fully compress the front pulley and achieve maximum overdrive. At least in my case.

CVT Belt

Guys;

Just wanted to add since I had the CVT case off, the numbers on my belt are: 13 x 425Li.

Mine also fits very snug between the pulleys at rest and this is the way it should be.

did the mod last night....

Got it all done last night. I was putting in a rocket key and did the cvt mod while I was at it. All I know is that my bike is alot better off. It is quick off the line and now do 35 on the pos speedo where before I could only get 20 out of it.

I noticed that my belt was really snug and was difficult to get back on.

Isn't it true that a larger sprocket will give you better bottom and and a weaker top end? i did this mod with the stock sprocket and it added almost 5 more mph to my top speed. Belt slippage is more though! gonna get that 18"er!

is it possible to install a comet cvt without rewelding? And is it better in the first place?

Actually if the engine does not have enough HP to pull that gearing, then top speed will be less. Gearing is only part of the equation, you need power too.

In the case of the X2 (X1-CVT), the stock rear sprocket seems to be a little on the small side and gains are being made with a larger rear sprocket.

Pops.

Just a tip on those sandblasting their pulley's. I have raced snowmobiles since I was three years old. I have a glass beader and sand blaster in my shop. Never once did I ever use them to scuff up my clutches. I use a brown scotch brite pad and it works great. I'm sure it would be more then adequate for a 5hp cvt motor.

well that's wierd because every web site that sells x2/1 sprockets says that a smaller sprocket will give you better top end and a bigger sprocket gives you more torque or more off the line power?

That is correct... Bigger (rear) will always work. Smaller will work, IF... Your motor has enough hp to pull the greater load imposed by a higher ratio gear.

A few teeth more or less on the rear as you require shouldn't hurt anything. Be aware that changing sprockets can require changing chain lengths too.

i did the cvt mod yesterday, took it for a ride, and it does accelerate somewhat faster. However, there was no gain, maybe a very small loss, of top end.
