Talking How To: make a racing style clutch

once you've taken the gear box and cover off you should be able to see the clutch there are two indentions on either side of the clutch spring , on the clutch shoes remove fly wheel and clutch assembly (the last step is optional but if you don't you'll get metal shavings everywhere) and drill the indentions out this will lighten up the clutch shoes making them engadge at a higher rpm . it should help low end take offs and offer less rotating mass

Re: how to make a racing style clutch

you probably put it out of balance. you have to drill the holes in the exact same spot on each shoe.

Re: how to make a racing style clutch

You need to do it with a drill press so the holes stay straight and true. Drilling them by hand you end up wobbling to much and that makes the holes out of round.

i filled the first set of holes back in with melted lead and now it kicks in great and allot sooner. before it just slipped real bad until high in the rpms. and i did drill them in the same spot and nice and straight.

Re: how to make a racing style clutch

No I have the x 18 pocket bike. And probably if you take the things off of the clutch it will last less than if they were on there. This might fix my answer. Like last long but a little shorter than if they were on there. So it would last longer with them.

Re: how to make a racing style clutch

anything to lighten the shoes will increase revs and slippage
lightning the entire clutch will allow the enginge to rev a little quicker
