Requirement for Arcade Access

Is there a requirement (such as number of posts) for access to the Arcade?

I tried to play a game or two but got a 'request denied' type of response.

Thanks,

Rusty

Re: Requirement for Arcade Access

Ok.. found the following on the Arcade page:

MEMBERS MUST HAVE 100 POSTS BEFORE THEY MAY PLAY THE ARCADE

Wow.. that's a lot of post. bummer.

Oh well, I'm sure there is a logical reason. I appreciate the effort it takes to run a system like this so I can understand the desire for more participation before the benefits!

later,

Rusty

The arcade is kind of lame anyway. I'm open to suggestion, make it 50 maybe?

i think 50 is resonable, besides their are plenty of other free online arcades

Re: Requirement for Arcade Access

Most of the web sites that use vBulletin have the Arcade and also tie the use of the Arcade to participation in the forums. Although I haven't seen another with the same high level of post.

I participate in another forum site for japanese gambling machines call PachiTalk.com. That site has a participation requirement but it's very small and it has a lot of games, I'm guessing more than 50. They even have a tournemant feature for the games.

PachiTalk.com

The main reason I want in this arcade is that there are a few games here that we don't have at the other.

I also think 50 would be the max for arcade access. If anyone is asking my opinion.

Re: Requirement for Arcade Access

There should be no post number requirement to use the arcade. To have one is just another draconian measure to try to control your lives. You want to encourage quality posts, not quantity. Since it’s mostly the kids that use the arcade, you are going to get a lot of useless posts like “me too” and “cool”, just so they can build up their post count. Even if they have an interest in PBs, they just may get discouraged about the arcade, and go elsewhere to play. This is totally the wrong strategy to attract and keep members.

Maico asked for suggestions. Yesterday I posted this and was quickly banned, and told I used "inappropriate language". Why the censorship?

Wow, that's an interesting point of view. The statement "To have one is just another draconian measure to try to control your lives." is, to me, a absurd correlation between control of one's life and the use of a free web service. This website, albeit supported by advertisements, is the under the exclusive copyright and control of the owner be it a single person or an organization. The owner(s) have taken it upon themselves for some reason, be it profit or not, to create a website for others use and have made the conscious decision to allow access for free. Since the decision to create and maintain a website is totally theirs, they have all the rights to set user limits and requirements as they see fit.

Obviously they feel that some level of control needed to be in place over the use of the Arcade either based on past experience, recommendations or effort required. It may simply be that the level of work required to maintain this portion of the website warranted the limitation of the Arcade to their most active members or those who have been here for a long time. I do not believe that they installed these limitations in order to control the user's life and to assert that is absolutely ridiculous.

What ever the owners of the website decides will be perfectly acceptable to me. I've made my suggestion, given my thoughts and since it is will only be due to the owners good will whether or not the Arcade even exist, I will applaud their decision. I have had my own website now for 10 years and I am the webmaster for several other sites so I truly understand the work required to keep even a 'non-interactive' site current and fresh.

Oh, as for the 'kids' that you speak of that would be posting goofy stuff just to get arcade access, well there are many other sites out there that offer the exact same arcade component but with over a 100 games so there is really no incentive for them to do as you speak. Having a large number of posts required will certainly give the webmasters ample opportunity to "catch" this process and disable their user id.

So, here's my suggestion. First realize that use of this website is a privilege granted and not something you have a 'right to'. Second, if you feel that this website is trying to 'control your life' then take your life elsewhere. Third, be thankful for the privilege that has been accorded you.

Re: Requirement for Arcade Access

Agreed, but on the other hand, sometimes I just get tired of browsing around to different arcades or whatever, when I get tired of reading threads (for hours on end), and I just wanna play a few games of Yahtzee or whatnot.. Its nice that I am already here, and dont have to leave pbp.com to be able to do so.. it is unfortunate that the post requirement is so high though. Understandable, but 100 posts seems just a bit steep. I agree with the suggestion of 50 posts.. I think that is a good number of posts for access.. Just my 2 cents..
