Help!! Suspected electrical issue

Hello all any help would be greatly appriciated. I brought an X18 yesterday. It dosnt have any on the kit attached but the owner gave me the panels alright. Ok so I get it home and of coarse I drop it stupid ME right. I break up the cluster panel, speedometer, batter metter, ect. but it still shifts, turn on ect. I also notice that the gear indicator LED registers 1st, neutral, and 2nd but not 3rd and 4th ok. Plus I have to wiggle the wires just to get it to display anyhow, shortage I figure. Oh yeah the brake light dosnt work now, before it did. The turn signals are still working. So I ride it around for about 30 minutes to an hour. Rides and shifts fine. The nut came off the gear shifter but GS motorsports fixed that for free for me. So Im off to work and hold off from nightriding until today. Ok so today I try to start it and it would start and die. So I choked it like the previous owner told me to do after it sits for awhile and wha-lah now it starts ok and idles fine. So Im cruising around for maybe 30 or so and I the bike died on me at a stop sign. I was holding the clutch in after downshifting to neutral before it stopped. Now no start, no power, no batter indicator, no horn, no loud beep from turn signals, NADA. So I had to walk, ride, scoot it back home. The bike is completly powerLESS. The prior owner told me he had to take the battery out and charge it cause it died on him once. I have to go to work so I am unable to troubleshoot it. Im in the process of ordering a new dash cluster. Should I wait until I get the cluster before I do anything. Could riding it with a busted cluster effect battery bike performance. Should I charge the battery, buy a new one ect. I knew buying a used x18 would be a little project. But my mistake seems to be spiraling out of control. My bad for making this so long but Im open to any and all suggestions. Oh Im gonna post pics tonight once I get off. Thanks for any help

Re: Help!! Suspected electrical issue

sounds to me that a wire came unplugged or the connection at the battery is bad. or maybe riding witha short at the cluster may have blown your fuse. check those things and report back.

Ok the fuse seems to be blown. The wire inside the glass is broken. Im gonna replace the fuse and then see what happens. So if that does fix it as far as power goes, should I hold off from riding until the cluster is replaced. Im wanna post a pic of the busted cluster. But when I tried to post a pic of the bike I recieved an error that the file couldnt be uploaded. Im gonna try again to post the pic.

Re: Help!! Suspected electrical issue

Ok I swapped the fuse and the bike now has power. It just wont stay started. It cranks up fine but shuts right off even after giving a little throttle. I chocked it and held it up for a minute or so and it runs ok. But after I release the choke nob it idles fine for about 30-45 seconds then slowly clunks out. This wasnt happening before. Im gonna post the busted cluster pics later. But I wanna know should I hold off from doing anything until I replace the cluster? Or how should I go about troulbeshooting this? Thanks for any suggestions.

Re: Help!! Suspected electrical issue

Ok I have satisfactory progress. I still havnt recieved the gauge cluster yet. With the help from this link X18 Pocket Bike FAQs I found what I was doing wrong. I didnt know I had to let the bike warm up with the choke up (per the link I found turning the choke knob to the right after holding it up locks it in place) and that helped alot. So I guess my the majority of my starting issues is resolved, typical user error. Now I just have to fix the cluster and now figure out why in the hech is my break light and turn signals not working. I guess thats another thread.

Re: Help!! Suspected electrical issue

You really don't need the cluster to work on the lights. Your brake light might be out. Check it first. Sometimes the signal flasher box can be defective take it out and hook it up to a battery and if it buzzes it is good, if it don't well you know.

Re: Help!! Suspected electrical issue

Thanks but one issue. I dont know what it looks like or where it is. For some strange reason now none of the blinkers work. The headlight is fine but the break light dosnt work at all. And the only reason I wanted to wait because I suspect that the busted cluster is what blew the fuse. Thanks for the info
