Time to turbo

This past summer I built my own bike out of a 150cc gy6 honda motor, but I think I'm ready to upgrade already. I've been eyeballing a couple turbochargers since I built it and have decided to go with the IHI RHB31. I have already milled the head down for higher compression which will help spool the turbo, as will the big bore piston that is in the mail right now along with a no rev limited cdi box with adjustable ignition timing. Since it is already high comp, I will be switching to E85 and shooting for around 10lbs of boost, which I think is feasible. The motor should make pretty good power, as I was able to hit 70mph naturally aspirated. I will probably order the turbo next week after I bore the cylinder, and will update this thread whenever I accomplish something worthwhile. Here's some pictures of the bike before I tore it down this week for the turbo build-

Re: Time to turbo

haha yeah, it was one of those last minute "hurry up and take it for a ride" deals.. there will be a proper overflow tank for it this time around, provided that i don't get too anxious again

Re: Time to turbo

Got ahold of the carb from the 250cc version of my motor since the stock one might be a little too small for the amount of air i'm pushing.

I also got my turbo in, cute little thing huh?

Re: Time to turbo

Is that piston top ring machined with an anti-detonation groove?

Re: Time to turbo

No, I think the carbon that anti-detonation grooves pick up outweigh any positive benefits they might have.

Re: Time to turbo

The groove is designed to stop that from happening by channeling off any build-up...with a turbo setup youll want one...

Re: Time to turbo

Channel it off to where? Any series of small grooves in a piston will pick up carbon, although with a good tune that shouldn't be a problem. I could have them added if I wanted to, but the I don't think it's worth the trouble as the only people I've ever seen promote them are the companies trying to sell their own products. There are plenty of people pushing their motors waaaaaay further than me without them, I just don't think they have any proven benefits.

Re: Time to turbo

Ordered my forged rod last night, now I have to press my crank apart and then put it back together without unbalancing it.

Re: Time to turbo

omg man.. that turbo is awesome! i didnt think there was anything out there smaller than the lil tdo4's that used 2 be on my 3000gt lol.
So you raised your compression? and you wanna throw 10lbs at it?...if you get it 2 work than that **** is gunna fly.

just a little heads up incase you dont kno... you need 2 get a stainless steel fuel filter if you wanna use e85.... im thinking about running e85 in my car, but the closest station that has it is 2 far.

best of luck man!
