X1 Direct drive conversion

So I was wondering...Rather than diddle with the transmission setup on the X1, why not eliminate the whole thing and convert it to a standard centrifugal clutch like my DM or Blata?

Has anyone tried this? Are there any benefits? Pitfalls? Any ideas on how to do it?

Has anyone swapped engines for more horsepower? I'm talking a simple inexpensive swap like taking a replica 40-50cc out of say a C1 or D1 Chinese bike. I could have a front sprocket machined so that wouldn't be a problem. Cheapo China bikes are all over CA in good condition.

Re: X1 Direct drive conversion

Its gonna be tough making the output shaft on the crank long enough to accept the centrifugal clutch. There would be more of a deficit than a benefit because the 3:1 trans drive box gives the bike the ability to move the weight and build revs up fast ...If you add a direct drive clutch youre gonna lock up at 2200 rpm's and lag badly because the revs will have to gradually exponentiate at a lower rpm ...Youll get great top end speeds but it'll take atleast a quarter mile to get it near top rev..

your best bet is getting a 6.5hp ohv Honda industrial engine;stripping off the tank and mounting it in the frame with a jackshaft setup at the midpoint for the final drive...but...the x-1 engine has alot of untapped potential too...

If the cylinder is turned into a two piece head kit with the squish re-adjusted to safe but tight tolerances the piston port engine will make quite a bit of power..You can also adjust the squish by disassembling the whole engine and having the cylinder mating surface redecked[milled] to adjust the squish to within acceptable levels...

You will also have to either degree in the ports or you can do a reed box conversion and dremel in a hole in the piston also make a custom intake manifold to accept a 50/70 or 90cc 4 stroke carb to unleash the beast...Adding a MDS Kicker ignition will really unleash it with extreme sikkness

Re: X1 Direct drive conversion

CAM2 you are an amazing wealth of information. My skills are in fabrication so engine building I normally leave to others. If I wanted to send my engine out for these HP mods is there someone reliable on the board you would suggest? You can PM me on that. I think I'll pass on the direct drive. I was thinking more of a centrifugal clutch like my DM or C1. Possibly even an engine swap from the C1 into the X1. I have CNC availability so making the custom parts wouldn't be too hard. If I can get someone to improve the power of the X! engine for me then I just need to gigure out how to adjust the belt setup so I'm not slipping and losing power there.

Re: X1 Direct drive conversion

Hey CAM2,

Can I swap the belt drive for a chain drive from the X7 or a direct drive sprocket as seen on this webstie????

CVT transmission, X7 belt drive transmission, X1, X2, chinese pb parts,

I'm going to get another X1/X2 for myself to ride with my wife and friends. I'm just not liking the belt drive and would like to try something else. We're looking at starting an X1/X2 series kinda like the Blata Cup. I want to try a bunch of stuff out before we work on a set of rules for modifications.

Thanks.

Re: X1 Direct drive conversion

The X-7 drive box will be a little too big to fit in the frame and line up correctly ....

The X-1 engine and engine mounts are in different placess with different styles as seen in the pics below...1st pic is the X-1 and 2nd pic is the X-2

If you wanted to stick an X-1 trans in an X-2 youll have to get a new mount or make a mounting tab for the transmission and welding it to the plate and finding a longer chain..Or youll have to cut the wrong one off the plate and reweld the new one in the correct placement 1" further back and 3/4" over to the left..

One member that comes to mind with the piston ported engine mods is 125ccCrazy..He only comes around the boards lately when hes selling something but it dont hurt to pm him for info..he spends most of his time in another forum..

Right now the best modifications you can do is port the intake, drill the purgeport open 1 size up...get a velocity stack with built-in choke, rocket key,rev pipe, boost bottles and E-3 sparkplug..If you want you could also get a walbro 603 hp carb with intake and you can also adapt a stock cag carb to work on the X-1 too with a little work and ingenuity...The belt drive transmission is adjustable aswell by changing out the roller weights , adding a stiffer hp clutch spring and dropping the front sprocket a tooth or two............Good Luck ..........Peace

Re: X1 Direct drive conversion

I found that the CVT is the best tranny on any of the 2-stroke MidBikes. I get lots of bottom end and top end out of mine running the stock 44 rear and drop 1 tooth on the front to a 17. I would be willing to build that motor for you and tune the CVT.

Re: X1 Direct drive conversion

Wife won't let me tweak hers so I'm looking for my own right now. I hate paying shipping or sales tax so I'm stuck with paying for gas to drive around central California. We'll see what I can find.

I'm still tweaking on my C1 and DM bikes. I think I have a disease. I still have to finish my wife's 54 GMC pickup and my 54 GMC Suburban. And those ain't gonna be cheap!

Maybe I is just dumm?

No not dumm just reverting into a smaller hobby that has more of a realistic time frame from start to finish aswell as giving much enjoyment working and riding on them....Building trucks and cars are cool too but are so time consuming .......

its highly doubtful youll find a brand new X-1 but theyre definately all over the craigslist used....
