Iowa State Pocket Bike Races - April 2nd

The Iowa State Motorcycle Club (www.isumc.com) will be hosting its first pocket bike road race in the Hilton Coliseum parking lot. The event will take place at 1:30 on April 2nd 2005.

The race will be restricted to 50cc. There will be different classes to make sure everyone has fun. There will be time to rest between heats and time to mess around if desired. We will open the lot to play tag on the pocket bikes. I’m sure there will also be drag races between the road races.

We are raffling a Chinese pocket bike as a fundraiser. The entrance fee for non-club members will be to buy $10 worth of raffle tickets (three tickets).

The mapquest directions take you to the Hilton Coliseum. If the link doesn't work do a search for "Elwood Dr & Lincoln Way Ames, IA 50010, US".

http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?country=US&addtohistory=&formtype=address& searchtype=address&cat=&address=Elwood%20Dr%20%26% 20Lincoln%20Way&city=Ames&state=IA&zipcode=50010&s earchtab=home

The campus map shows the parking lots. We will be in one of the lots across from the visitor information booth.

Shibby, I don't know exactly what everyone is bringing. It sounds like there will be a few mid-bikes coming, but there is only one person in our club with one.

The $10 is for the raffle tickets and admission. We had to charge admission for non-members and this seemed to be easy and fair.

You could look at it like a $10 admission with three free raffle tickets.

The race is open to ALL 50cc and smaller vehicles. There will be a couple people with non-pocket bikes at the race. We will make another class if the race is unfair. Otherwise, we should be able to tighten some corners.

I just want to make sure everyone is having fun.

fstbusa, that was not my plan to come over and smoke the pocket bikes. I will gladly give up any prize to the pocket bike riders if that would be the case. I just want to ride my 50 and have some fun.

A couple friends and I went out last Sunday and tested the lots. The new lot was slick so we will race on an older lot. There are not any pot holes or cracks bigger than 3/8 of an inch, so it is still in great shape. According to the map, the lot is about 600’ long by 300’ wide with two light poles. If you come early, you can help us design the course.

I JUST got the OK from ISU risk management. The race is 100% official. However, every racer will be required to wear a helmet and sign a waiver.

We are selling 100 raffle tickets for the pocket bike, so everyone will have a great chance at winning. If tickets are sold out, we will ask for a donation as racers entrance fees.

I plan to start setting up the lot at 12:00 and the course at 12:30. The race is scheduled to start at 2:00 but you can come early to practice or design the course.

Throughout the day I plan to modify, or even change the course completely, to accommodate different riders.

Most of the race winners will be chosen through blind scoring so everyone has a chance to win.

Hopefully we will have a halftime show of sport bikes.
