Indoor update

I talk to Marc at M.I.K. and I have a tentative date for a test :Sept. 28. at 2.00pm at the facitity.
The bad news is that we NEED MORE THEN 1 RIDER,the good news is that we can TEST THE PRODUCTION BIKES, and cags.
I need someone to come up on thursday to test how safe is the track and to see how is the overtaking.

Re: Indoor update

this is a very tight track, I think hte banshee is to fast, can you try to bring the L7 ?
At the track they are concerned with the power of the bike.
I will bring my cag and the 6.2 Polini with the proddy pipe, no race pipe, in a effort to keep the power down.

Re: Indoor update

If you get in a pinch you can stop by my house and grab a Blata from me..It would be on the way and you could just drop it off when you are done.

Re: Indoor update

Im back... Davide and I went up to MIK this afternoon. I'll only comment on the track since I think Mark, the manager, is going to post about cost, schedule etc. Track is much more open than I expected. Plenty of room for passing. There is a very tight inner section. Getting this area right will be key to doing well. The outer part of the track is pretty much 3 longish straights and one shorter one. You can really carry some speed through it. They are a little concerned with to much speed in one corner and may tighten up the track there to reduce speeds.

The track surface is VERY grippy. At first it looks very slick and really slowed us down. I was very tentative to push it. After a few laps you realize that wow you really stick to this surface. It was very forgiving with peg and knee drags. You know you did it but its smooth enough that it doesn't catch and toss you. The track barriers were a bit scary at first. After a few laps I didn't even notice them.

I don't think anything more than a modded cag is needed here. Davide had trouble keeping up with me on his polini. It's just not big enough to use/need the power. I was running 6/64 gearing. Id say that was pretty close for this track. 6/68 would probably do very well also.

Onto the facilities- It was very clean inside. Lots of tables that looked out onto the track in the snack area. There is very large heated pit area. Acess to this from the track though could be a bit weird. We would have to walk bikes through the snack bar area to get on and off the track. For the 1st time out we will probably set up out on the edge of the track where the karts usually park.

Ill let davide fill in anything I left out.

Re: Indoor update

Some dollar amounts & amount of track time were mentioned. I just don't want to put some numbers out there and then the track have to go back on them. I can say that they were a much better deal than sugarhill.

Re: Indoor update

Thank you Scot,
report well done, no mucth more to add.
There are 2 good place for passing. the first is at the end of a double apex corner when you brake for the left corner of the s.
2 is after a short strait braking for a left airpean, but we all know thet with the cag if you make a mistake, you are at the back of the pack.
Macr will post soon on a tentative schedule, cost and so and so.
The general idea is to run only the cag class on Sunday betwine 8.00 and 10.00 AM.
Any comment? concerne?

Re: Indoor update

Gentleman,

Marc here from MIK. I can assure you all the pricing will be reasonable-my plan is to build the series the first year and see if it is feasible and hopefully be able to grow it 2007/2008. I will have a plan posted next week that will outline everything. We will have transponders for everyone and will also give out prizes and schwag to the winners, I will even try and find a sponsor. As a former pocketbike owner and a 20 year motorcycle owner I am all for and committed to your sport. As stated before safety is key-all of you have to work (or go to school) on Monday!!! I appreciated Scott and Davide coming up and riding the track-they had great feedback and I think we will be able to give everyone LOTS of track time and some really good racing. Do understand that the track is a tight Semi-technical road-course so skill will win over power. If anyone wants to contact me direct I can be reached at:207-885-0058 To see the track design go here: http://www.maineindoorkarting.com/track.html

-MORE SOON.
Marc

PS: My record down to Boston is 52 minutes...SHHHHHHHHH!

Re: Indoor update

Was wondering if you CT boys would come up all that way. Good to here you'll be there. To make this work long term(make enough money for the track) we will need a lot more people. So the more the merrier.

Re: Indoor update

we will do our best to be there. indoor racing (practicing) is our roots. we started out riding our cags here in the factory where we work. as with The Hill we probably won't be there for every event like you folks that live closer (and don't have lives lol) :-)

i think some adverstising might be necessary to get the numbers we're looking for.

EDIT: oooo!, I just Googled it, 216 miles from my house, 3 hrs 45 mins travel time. ouch. maybe we won't be there :-(

Re: Indoor update

Great job guys.
I think this will be the only indoor racing on the east coast so we may be able to pull from a good size area.

It's 3hr drive for me.
