I have only come across these pocket bikes in the last week or so and am incredibly keen on purchasing my first one. I have done a bit of searching of late and am astounded how many different models there are out there. Living in Australia, there may not be the same models or support as there are in the States.
What I am asking is for some help on deciding on my first bike. What I am looking for is something that I can ride too and from the shops and around the streets. I am not considering racing just yet but may well in the future as the addiction takes hold. From what I have read is that these are illegal in the states but I have been told they are legal here. Apparently they fall in the under 50cc class so are legal on the roads without rego or licencing and have the same rules as the motorised scooters and such that I have seen around. I have not seen a pocket bike on the streets locally though.
As I love to modify I am looking for a bike that is upgradable to be made faster etc. What things should and shouldnt I be looking for when purchasing? What bikes have good aftermarket support? I dont want to spend a lot of money and have seen a few bikes that are quite expensive and mostly sold for racing purposes. I also live on a bit of a hill. How well do they pull p a steep incline? Dont want to have to push it up my street
Sorry for the long post but hopefully you can all throw your input my way and possibly help others in my position with their decisions.
Maybe even make a sticky on what to look for when purchasing

sorry to say it but those bikes are ripoffs, dont buy that bike. they are cheaply made in china and they dont even go close to 50mph they barely go 25 and they only have 2.5hp (almost 3hp) and most italian bikes have between 2.5hp-15hp and can hit speeds between 40-55mph (not the blata 2.5). Dont buy them,my friend bought one and it broke in a few weeks and he took good care of it.They are very unreliable.
Buy a Blata 2.5(italian)they are great begginer bikes and if they are too slow for you get a polini 4.2hp 910 carrena "S" or any other italian bike like GRC,Polini,BMS,ZPF etc.
they are worth the money. Sorry i had to break it to you just dont want you to get ripped off. I'll PM you some info

I've been having a blast with my cheap china bike,no problems so far,but I go over the bike and tighten all the bolts at the end of each day of riding.I am 220lbs scraping peg on the turns so I think I work it pretty hard.As long as you are mechanicaly inclined the bikes are great starter bikes. The motor has started first pull every time, great little motors come with these bikes. Most of the problems with these bikes is people pull them out of the box and ride them till they fall apart, never maintenancing the thing. Even the italian bikes need a going over now and then, though most won't admit it though.
IM looking to buy my first pocket bike since I live in Canada and all the sites are from the U.S. The money is more im looking at a Full Fairing Pocket Bike CJ-NS FFPB for 389.95 american. is this a good price and a good bike or not? do u know any places in canada i can get a pb?
Thanks for the replies guys. Basically most say stick with the italian bikes. I have searched for names like Polini and GRC but havent found anything local. Does anyone know what names they might be under in Australia?
Its probably because it would be so much cheaper to import the chinese bikes over here and with out crappy dollar exchange the Italian bikes wouldnt sell too well in the mainstream. For what I am after I dont think an italian bike would be in the budget either.
You all talk about the full fairing road bikes but what about others like the harley and chopper copies? Anyone know anything about these models? Are their any worth while contenders in this category?
other then that i would get one
an dto who ever wrote to me to get the green one on that site i dont like it as much as the names i wrote done on the site www.minipocketrockets.com
and the first anem i wrote down on pocketbikes/full_fairing_green.html" target="_blank">www.burningcar.net/ pocketbikes/full_fairing_green.html
Does Anyone Know How Long It Takes Between The Time You Order A Grc Rr 15hp And The Time You Receive It?does Anyone Have One?i Was Thinking Of Getting A Replica! Are These 15 Hp Really Fast?
Yes. A 15 HP GRC (if its the real deal not china made) will go anywhere from 40-50 from what ive heard. Thats may not seem like much, but its alot for a lil pocket bike.
ok here is some advise. If your going to get one to play on the street..then stop now turn around and keep walking. If your interested in racing or closed course (off the road) racing then read on.
Look into your local pocket bike racing chapter they may have used gear and bikes to save you some cash from new.
First you will need gear, prefereable a full minimoto race suite, boots, gloves, back protector and a good full face *** and Snell 2000 helmet.
Then bike choice.
First bike choice would be a 4.2 (about 6hp) BMS, ZPF, GRC, GEM etc. all make great 4.2's
Talk to the clubs, racers etc and learn the tracks, how to ride and especially how to tune and maintain the bikes after each ride.
i have had a cag for about 3 months and have found it to be a ton of fun. but i am looking to up grade to a real pocket bike. i hear that the real bike are way more comfortable. i would like toi race in the mmmrl league what would be a competitive bike. but not 2 much hp.
1) there are 2 kinds of bikes... A) the cag aka small china bike copy of the italian bikes... B) the midbikes with lights that are about 2-3 ft tall (the X1,X2,cateyes, 380x, and other copy offs)
2) they say they go 50, but your lucky if u get 30... sure, they have the potential to go 50, but thats after 2-300 or so dollars worth of mods..
3) those choppers only go like 20-25... they feel comfortable, but they dont go too fast...
4) the most important part about pocketbikes and PBP is...
NEVER RIDE IN THE STREET... EVEN THO ITS OK IN YOUR STATE/COUNTRY, ITS ILLEGAL TO TALK ABOUT ON PBP....these bikes werent made for the street... some manuals say "FOR OFFROAD USE ONLY"
My friend bought a Cag a few months ago when the Pocket Bike Craze was hitting it's peak. It was too much work and I am very mechanically inclined. Too many preps, too much maintenance and even with proper care and prepping parts keep breaking or falling off. In order for these bikes to run reliably most if not all the parts have to be replaced specially the bolts. Seing what a Cag ownership would entail I decided to get a real Pocket Bike to avoid this head ache. I decided on a fairly new Blata Elite 11 AR. This is an older model Czech made pocket bike but is blessed with an Italian made Pollini 6.2 motor. This one is a mini and not a midi so comfort is an issue compared to midi bikes but is a screamer and scary fast. It has been a few months now and I have no major issues with the bike except replacing the spark plug and the pull start cord, besides that I just gas and go, my friend's bike well the past 2 weeks something breaks on it or something comes loose and we end up spending an hour looking for the lost parts. Look at it this way you will spend as much or more money on the Cag on the long run by buying everything to make it faster and more reliable and it will still never get as fast as the Italian, Czech or European counterparts. You get what you pay for. My opinion for first time buyers is if you really are on a tight budget buy the Cag learn from it but do not upgrade it except maybe for the pipe since the stock one will fall off after a few minutes or if you're lucky a few hours. Once you learn the basics save up for a real pocket bike, the Giannini GEM bikes are very good for the money, $ 1,800.00 with a 6.2 Pollini motor, or you can buy some used Italian bikes for about that price range. The Cag should help you decide if this sport is really for you, at least if you decide to get out of this sport then you won't be out a few thousand dollars.
