Honolulu Meet?

How many of you in hawaii can't ride your pocketbike anywhere now that the cops are cracking down big time? I'm in hawaii kai and we're on lock down here. I've seen guys at Iwilei costco, but never gone, does anyone reading this go there, or have other ideas?

Arrow frustration...

well im glad to see that more of the oahu pocket bikers are not giving up hope.
what we need to do is get more support for this sport. i recently bought a razor pocket bike for my 5 year old son and he loves it and goes for it. i also got me a chinese version gas powered bike. if you guys are really stuck to the sport and want to see it grow i may have a suggestion for you all. you can go to razor concepts in pearlridge uptown, car stereo express in pearl city, the discount store in kalihi, or scooter alley on beretania [ next to security and sound systems ] and sign a petition there. do not go to all locations and sign in hopes of filling it. sign at one of the locations and hope for the best. what that will do is give a visual of how many pocket bike owners are actually willing to support the sport and that could lead to getting a track for this sport. if we do not unite then we will not get the funds or the support to get what we are asking for. and if you want more to see about pocket bikes click the following link... I'm looking into racing mini's YSR/NSR's and even pocket bikes for my son's. Has anyone looked into having the local cart track sponsor races? Here in Okinawa we use cart tracks and go for broke, it's a blast.

honolulu meet

This article was today afternoon Newspaper Nov.8,2004

Jon Sanchez and his 5-year-old son, Kimson, ride pocket bikes on a private road in Kalihi. Sanchez supports the city's ban on pocket bikes from public streets; however, he would like to see the city create a park for them.

Popularity of pocket
bikes on decline

Sales and complaints over
minimotorcycles are down since
a ban hit two months ago

By Rosemarie Bernardo
rbernardo@starbulletin.com

The pocket bike craze that had residents and motorists abuzz with complaints appears to be running out of gas.

George Burmeister of Cycle Imports Hawaii said he has not sold a pocket bike since the city banned the minimotorcycles from public roads and property.

"It's actually dead," said Burmeister, who sold about 150 pocket bikes during the summer.

City park officials also stopped receiving complaints about noise and safety concerns of pocket bike riders at Central Oahu Regional Park and the Waipio Soccer Complex in Waipahu after the ban took effect more than two months ago.

"We haven't seen any pocket bikes," said Glenn Kajiwara, city Department of Parks and Recreation manager in Central Oahu.

The number of citations was not available, but police in Pearl City and Kailua continue to receive complaints.

"We get complaints several times a week," said Sgt. Dean Kawamoto, of the Kailua Substation.

Kawamoto said he recently tried to stop two 12-year-old boys who piled on one pocket bike in the parking lot of Kaneohe Elementary School.

The children sped off after he attempted to talk to them. Pocket bike riders were also observed at Waimanalo District Park, said Kawamoto.

However, city spokeswoman Carol Costa said park officials who oversee the Waimanalo park have not received any complaints from residents.

But Sgt. Jensen Okagawa of the Pearl City Substation said they continue to get daily complaints throughout the district, which covers Aiea, Pearl City and Waipahu.

Anyone riding a pocket bike on public streets faces a $55 fine.

Meanwhile, lawmakers in New Jersey and Philadelphia are seeking to ban pocket bikes from public places. In August, 18-year-old Angel Boulogne died in Philadelphia when he drove a pocket bike the wrong way on a one-way street and collided with a car.

Reimar Muniz, manager of Razor Concepts at Pearlridge Center, said they tell consumers that the bike is not street legal and is intended for adults, not children.

"A lot of adults think it's for kids because of its size," said Muniz.

And sales remain steady, with many of their customers coming from the Big Island and Maui, he added.

Wahiawa resident Jon Sanchez said he recently purchased two pocket bikes, a fuel-operated bike for himself and an electric bike for his 5-year-old son, Kimson.

Sanchez supports the city's ban on pocket bikes from public streets, but he would like to see the city create a park for them.

"I think kids on public streets going at top speed (on pocket bikes) ... I think that's a misuse," he said. "When I used to skateboard, we didn't have parks. Now they have parks islandwide," said Sanchez, 28.

Burmeister and Muniz also believe a park -- with rules -- for pocket bikes is a good idea.

Sanchez said his son's electric pocket bike can travel 12 miles per hour. His son wears a helmet and other safety gear when he takes him riding on a private road in Kalihi.

"I'm always side by side by him," he said.

Sanchez noted that his family members were strongly against him buying a pocket bike as a birthday present. "My whole family wanted to kill me when I wanted to get it for him," said Sanchez. "I understand he is too young. I do assume responsibility. ... I'm with him at every moment."

I hope, we can ride pocket bike at new bigger race track. it is nice article , I just read. Pocket bike can booms in business, and build new pocket bike tracks available. This will have good sales. The city has money to builds skate park. What about pocket bike tracks? spread the word. Lets have all names of peoples to signs a new pocket bike track! holding signs in front of state capital.

re: trey

well from what i hear they ride at about 1pm at the spot you went to...i was unfortunatly unable to make it this weekend but i will be going next weekend...
as for the kart track at campbell's, the owner is from new zeland or austrailia, and he has no intention or leasing it, he wants to sell it period...
so we need to have some functions to grow some money so we may purchase it or get a loan of some sort to buy it...the other problem is the land doesnt come with it and the monthly bill for land tax there is $2000...so hopefully we can get it somehow...maybe the state can get it for us and a few selected members of the pocket bike community can manage it...if you think of it, the posibilities are endless...could rent it out for parties and can have classes for safety of all ages and stuff liddat...we need the support and the funds but support comes first...
if we can all unite and come together, the force of the WANT/NEED will be stronger...so satnd up and get as much peeps as you can together to get those petitions [at RAZOR CONCEPTS IN PEARL RIDGE, CAR STEREO EXPRESS IN PEAR CITY, DISCOUNT STORE IN KALIHI, AND SCOOTER ALLEY ON BERETANIA...] SIGNED...
peace...
