Wanting to get into pocket bikes in Dallas area

New to the board and pocketbikes. I'm getting interested in these little bikes and I have a couple questions.

1) Can you guys recomend some good bikes? There are a lot out there on the net and I don't know what to look at. I had a Suzuki SV650S for 2 years and I sold it this summer. I miss it terribly and it seems like these little pocket bikes might amuse me while I dont have a big bike. I was looking at the 47-49 cc bikes like this one: http://www.buyscooteronline.com/49cc...ke-801062.html

2) I'm also about to graduate college and I'm going to have 9 months to kill before law school starts so I was thinking I could get into racing pocket bikes to entertain myself. Are there leagues in place around Dallas? I glanced through some posts about members getting together and setting up courses. That sounds like a good time to me!

Any tips you guys could give me would be great. Thanks.

Myself and 5 co-workers all got cags (l7 style) last week. We live and work in
Allen and just ride in our work parking lot on weekends. Were talking about going up to that old outlet mall in Mckinney this weekend and trying that place out. If your interested in the L7 bikes email me and I'll tell you where
we got them.
Your more than welcome to come join us when we ride.

Dan

What day and time are you guys going to be in McKinney? What are the directions from 121 and the tollway?

How far are you from the HURST area?. I ran across some guys that are riding every sunday at a high school located at 9200 mid-cities blvd. at 9:00 a.m.. I am kind of like you, I have always rode litre size bikes, but these little ones look like a bunch of fun. I have not bought one yet, still shopping for the right one, let me know what you end up getting.

Check this forum category for info on the only insured and approved location to ride pocketbikes in the DFW area:

http://www.pocketbikeplanet.com/forumdisplay.php?f=131

Even if you haven't yet bought a bike, come by to chat. Meet the "regulars" and get their take on the different pocketbikes. There's also a dealer that shows up regularly.

Dude...ya'll need to hook me up! KB and I sorta opened up the Mall out there. The cops and the property manager are cool with us going out there so long as you don't go in the mall. I don't know if you made it out or not, but you'll need some good brooms, but a 200mph leaf blower works best. It's kinda dirty. I live in McKinney and now that the weather is nice again, I'm feelin the need! Let me know when ya'll ride and where you work. I've got a 100 cones we can lay down and I'm usually home from work by 4:30pm. Give me a call and let me know. Cel (469)235-3535

Sorry, man...I totaly hyjacked your thread!
You can easily pick up a PB on eBay for < $200, but if you want a bad mother, you're gonna spend more on an Italian or water cooled model. If you just want to plug in and ride, pick one up on eBay or see if someone here has a used one for sale. I picked up a spare engine for $25 shipped on eBay and parts are cheep.
Depending on where you live, you should be able to hook in with a good group. The guys that go out to Birdville are really cool and super nice to new comers.

The abandoned mall in McKinney is where I want to start getting something together on Sat. mornings, but I'd opt for something cleaner if there was a place to be had. Directions from 75: take 75 north to McKinney and exit 121 east and imediately flip a U-Turn and then get on 75 south, but don't get on the highway. That first exit is Ridgeview and the mall is right there on your right (west side of 75)...can't miss it. We used to run on the back side of the Mall, but I started exploring the front before stoped riding for winter.

Ya'll let me know when you want to get together...my poor PB just sits there and glares at me when I throw a leg over my Gixxer and head off to work!

Hey Jonny! Haven't heard from you in a loooong time. You need to come out to Birdville one these weekends. KB et. al have got a good thing going there. Also the next TMGPS race is 5/29 in Denton. Time to blow the cobwebs off that pocketbike of yours.

You know I actually already dusted them both off for my wife's little cousins. 10yr old Ericka is fearless! We need to get together in McKinney again. I'm going to try and get something together Saturday. I'm supposed to ride my Gixxer with a couple of guys later on, but I'd like to get out there around 8am and see if I can't break some stuff!!! If you can make it, bring your boys...I'll see if I can drag Keyotto out, my neighbor and I've got a buddy from Highschool who's one race away from being hooked! We'll drag him out too! Let me know.

Carl already hit me up about Bville and the Denton race. I don't know when I'd be able to make it out to Bville, but I can swing the Denton race. I should be out there. I'll probably just be watching, and maybe I'll roll some tape...

Hey, don't you have a big bike? Some of us are going for a ride Saturday out here if you want to join in...let me know.

It's good to hear from you...we'll hook up.

-Jonny

Sorry, but this weekend is out for me. I'll be in Austin spending time with the family. We definitely need to hook up, be it pocketbikes or big bikes. I've got a '96 VFR. In fact, here's pic of it and my new toy - a '05 DM Midi GP 10hp.

NICE...I have Toy-Envy!
VFR looks clean! You might be too embarassed to ride with me.
That's cool...when ever.
I'll see you in Denton if not before. Drop me a line if you're free one Saturday...
