How to: Adjust needle clip *pics*

This should be helpful to a lot of people!

Also why you are in there might as well taper your needle too! Just chuck it in a drill and carefully run it on sandpaper, I used 220 grit and smooth out that sharp edge it has.

Re: How to: Adjust needle clip *pics*

i have a question on this procedure, if i put a bigger jet in the carb, and moved the c-clip to the 1st position (less gas), does that not defeat the purpose of the larger jet?

Re: How to: Adjust needle clip *pics*

Thanks for this nice "how-to" article.

Could someone explain the merits of this needle modification?

My new CAG seems to be bogging at higher RPMs when the fuel tank is down to about 3/4 full. I am guessing that this bogging is due to the engine running rich. I thought I would try to move the needle down a notch (clip up a notch) to lean it out.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Re: How to: Adjust needle clip *pics*

when is it important to do this? when you get bogging do you make it leaner? what would be a good time to make it richer? would it be a good idea to make it richer after i put an aftermarket air filter on it?

idk why maybe to get it to slide in easier, or maybe just the feeling of a clean slide without fuel and oil all over it. Im getting good at this stuff now thanks to this website and the guys

you probly put the barrel on backwards, try spining the black barrel 180 degrees and then putting it back in (or untill the cable end is opposite from the lttle screw sticking out

Re: How to: Adjust needle clip *pics*

i'll help the thread out,

Sharpening the needle helps atomize the fuel=Good.
Moving the clip on the needle effects the amount of fuel from 1/4 to full throttle.the typical setting on cag carb needles is 1st or second notch from the bottom.thus letting the most flow through the jet.

if you get a bigger jet,you can put the clip higher on the needle.

Where is the best position for the clip? Or is it trial and error to match the bikes mods?

QFT I just pulled out my needle on my Cag 2010. A little off topic: It says manufactured in 4/09 on the label, does this mean it's supposed to be a 2009 model?

Here's a picture of my needle. Like shawn said, there is only one position for the c clip, and the larger, silver U washer just sits freely above the c clip, it doesn't actually securely latch onto the needle. I am having problems immediately starting my bike after riding it for a while. It usually takes me 20-30 min before the bike wants to start again after I kill it. Following the advice of fellow forum members, I pulled the needle to see where the c-clip is set and this is what I saw...

Bump. Is there anyway to adjust the lean/rich settings on this type of carb? Or would I have to buy a replacement carb? Thanks.
