What Is Needed To Race

I am planning to attend the race on the 13th but I need to know the required things to race. I don't have full leathers so I would be using pants and my pair of hockey shins. It's what I been using. Also my bike doesn't have the upper cowling. I don't know if it's a must. And last is there a deadline to sign up for the race.

REQUIRED GEAR FOR RACING:

1. Snell/*** approved Full-face helmet with shield.

2. One of the following:
- Full racing leathers w/ knee pucks, or
- Minimoto racing suit w/ knee pucks, or
- Leather or ballistic nylon jacket, preferably racing
style with built in armour, otherwise you may want
to wear protection underneath such as elbow pads
and perhaps shoulder protection, jeans or similarly
abrasion resistant pants protected by Minimoto
knee sliders. Knee/calf protection from other sports
typically do not have the abrasion resistance
needed to slide on asphalt.

3. Leather gloves preferably with Carbon Fiber inserts

4. Minimoto shoes or leather shoes with ankle protection.

CAPRA riders can contact Advanced MotoSports to get equipment
such as Zocchi Gloves and Knee Sliders and Minimoto shoes and suits.

With the Cag class we've been somewhat lenient on the cowling requirement (as long as you removed the "spear on the front"), but in the other classes it is required. It's mainly a safety factor for the other riders, not your bike. Most bikes have a spear-like protusion on the front of the bike where the fairing mounts. If one rider crashes into another it could be very dangerous. We minimize the issue by requiring the fairing.

No need to sign up for the race. Just come on out.

Nope, the sweatshirt doesn't provide adequate protection. It's as a much an insurance issue for the organizers as it is a safety issue for the rider. You must "adequately" protect yourself from serious injury, that's how the sport stays safe.

And if the knee pads are in fact just pads, then they won't do either. You need abrasion resistant leg protection over full length abrasion resistant pants such as jeans.

The helmet is fine as long as you have goggles.

The list above is pretty complete.

yep, those usually go hand-in-hand. You'll have to buy about 10 of those to get the same life expectancy of one pair of Zocchis...

what about gloves

what about gloves? All my gloves are just the fox ones, no leather. Also what about the shield on helments. I took mine off because I like the added air because I'm not going that fast so it gets pretty hot. "Then again it's winter so heat isn't really a issue" One more thing where can I get thoughs knee-shins that are allowed cause mine won't cut it.

Ultimately it's your body, how much is it worth to you?

We can only require gloves and recommend leather or racing ones. What you actually wear is up to you. FYI, Minimoto gloves aren't all leather either, some aren't really leather at all.

Either a face shield or goggles is mandatory, parts can fly off bikes, especially during crashes, bugs and/or dirt can fly into your eye during a race, guess what would happen? All road racing sports require them and so do the tracks.

You can buy the Zocchi knee sliders at your local dealer, Advanced MotoSports, 703-246-9003.

Are there any set procedures for bike numbers? Are they assigned at the race or just arbitrary? I've got my gear and the basics that I think I'll need for Saturday. Are there any items that are nice to have at the track that I might not be thinking of?

Just email me some number choices and I'll let you know if they're taken. I may put up a post sometime of the current number assignments but there's plenty of numbers to choose from.

Be sure to put your number on the front of your bike at least 3"-4" inches tall and starkly contrasting, e.g., black or blue numbers on a clear windshield is NOT contrasting. Black numbers on a white shield is.

Tools, lubricants (chain), fuel also water to keep yourself hydrated and of course a bike stand for the bike, maybe a chair to sit in. On summer days an EZ-Up tent is a good idea and some guys have an 8x8 or 10x10 piece of outdoor carpeting to make their pit area cleaner and neater. You can bring snacks or even lunch or you can buy them at the track.
