I have some serious concerns of some talking I was informed of after the end of racing on Sunday. As everyone should know, my entire family is VERY dedicated to the growth of the pocketbike program within OMRRA; my dad as pocketbike referree, my mom with ASIT, and both my sister and I working as corner workers. I would think that there would be NO question as to why we are involved, to expand the program and to ensure a SAFE environment for ALL of those involved.
It was brought to our families attention Sunday that there was accusations of personal gain due to a medical decision made by ASIT and the paramedics. It was said that the decision was made to "eliminate competition" for my son. FIRST OF ALL, this was a NOVICE race. Second of all, working with ASIT, the safety of the riders is what comes first, not what team they race for. I am very disappointed that this continual backstabbing can not seem to cease. I would much rather sit on the sidelines of every race, to actually WATCH my son participate, but I don't to ensure the safety of ALL RACERS.
I would just say that if anyone believes that they would do a better job on the corner, please don't hesistate to volunteer at the next race.
I am very saddened and upset to hear that those type of accusations may have been made. It's never a good thing to have anyone go down hard, but we all know it does happen. And when it does, ASIT and the paramedics are there with their medical training and experience to handle the situation. The paramedics are professionals, doing a very important job. When a rider goes down, paramedics don't give a rats-butt who the downed rider is, what team a rider rides for, or what the point standing is. When a rider goes down and paramedics are required, the paramedics are the only ones qualified to evaluate a situation and decide on an appropriate course of action. That is how it should be, how it must be, and how it is. I talked with the one of the paramedics immediatly after this situation. Anyone who has some crazy idea that there was an attempt to to "eliminate competition"... feel free to talk with me at the next race and I'll try and help you get back in touch with reality.
jeepers what is the world coming to. Colton is a great kid, and you guys are constantly doing your parts in contributing to making OMRRA organized and safe. It's disheartening to hear that some can so trivially defile it.
Back in the 1800s when sports were initially allowed to begin in schools, they were introduced as a character building exercise, to allow the teachers to teach the kids 'sportsmanlike conduct', respect, and the value of teamwork. Pocket bike racing is a great place to help kids grow in character, but its too bad that some of the parents seem to have none.
Jen I am so sorry that you have to even deal with these absurd issues. I was very happy to see the fast responce for the accident. To think that anything but concern for his wellness occured is very sad and disturbing. We LOVE colton to pieces and have the utmost respect for your whole family. All I can say is thank you for all your devotion. Any team that would have those comments will do nothing but make themselves an outcast instead of furthering the sport of good will.
Everytime I hear accusations from one team to another about the kids especially when words like cheating is involved I move one notch closer to calling it done. I take great strides to make sure I surround my son with positive influences and oportunities to grow and experience all that I can give him. It does not matter to me if he comes in last place or is first in points, If he is not in a positive enviroment (other racers, parents of racers, and officials) then I will end it.
I hope every listened closely to what Mark had to say at the last meeting as it was very well done.
