Let me start off by saying it was great to seem some familair, and new faces out at the track this weekend. I have to say an ENORMOUS THANK YOU goes out to Michael Lenz, and Ron Gray for stepping up at the last minute to co-direct the race this weekend. They were a glue that kept this weekend together by keeping focused about the racing first, and with their own racing experience, I think the weekend was tremendously successful. unfortunately we found out frday afternoon at 2pm, we were without a RD for the weekend (and rest of the season), and they unselfishly stepped up to the plate without hesitation. THANK YOU!
For those of you who are not aware, Michael Lenz is your rider rep for OMRRA pocketbikes, and anytme you have any concerns please do not hesistate to get with him. As our program grows we are trying to, in most cases, follow the program of the big bikes. Because someday these young riders may move up and ride with the big club, and if they have been raised in a similairly structured enviroment there shouldn't be too many suprises.
Great job to all of the riders, there was some excellant riding this weekend.
A HUGE thank you to Ron & Michael. Everything was handled very well and without bias. I hope Ron will be able to continue on as Head Race Director!!
Great racing this weekend by the Jr Riders! Some VERY close and exciting, heart pounding competition in the Jr GP Open & Jr GP races between Peter Lenz & TJ
Jr GP Open was a very tight race lead mostly by Peter but with TJ swapping for first position a few times. In the final laps, Peter pushing his machine, crashed allowing TJ to make a clean break to take first. Peter was able to catch up to 2nd place finisher, Mario Alveraz Jr. but was unable to get passed him in time for the checker, placing Peter in 3rd position.
Jr. GP Open began in similar fashion, with Peter leading much of the race, but swapping positions a few times with TJ who was on his tail the whole race. As the boys were approaching the last 2 corner, a lapper became an obstacle - Peter in front, TJ's nose at his tail. In the final turn is when the 3 boys met. TJ took the inside, Peter took the outside. The checker was a mere 100 feet or so away. TJ came out of the corner first, but Peter was gaining. The finish was so close and there was a disagreement among officials as to the finish. Both boys were given first places finishes and points.
This year proves to be a very exciting and close season. Get those cameras out! We might just be having photo finishes each race!

The adult racing, albeit previously unmentioned, was also action packed. Some of our newer riders are displaying unprecedented ability to catch up to the seasoned riders. There were very few crashes, no drama or bad attitudes, nobody getting cut-off or driven off the track. There were a lot of mechanical failures, but great weather, lots of track time, and a beautiful track.
It was great to see Jim N. back down there, Randy was fast as ever with his beautiful trailer, Mitch was crazy fast, Jamie is shockingly fast for how much time he has on his bike, Ryan dragged his shoes so much I am surprised that his toes aren’t sticking out…Robert was consistently very fast, Steve was doing great too. Shawn didn’t ride just so he could help others get riding, and there is much on the track that wouldn’t have happened without his support. All of the adults put their heart into it and were very respectable.
I actually benefited from not racing myself. It has been a long time since we have witnessed racing like that and saw one heck of a show from track side. Peter L, Mario, TJ and Bennie were on their game big time. It was apparent that the off season was not wasted and the new season got off to a great start. The kids were an awesome show to watch.
Christopher pulling off a win in the open class on a 6.2 stock air cooled bike against some seriosly powerful bikes was the highlight for Michelle and I. In this case the rider made the difference and rode the bike to its extreme limits.
Looks like the season is ramping up to be a good one, thanks for the show!
Shawn & Michelle
I have a whole bunch of pics that I am going to post, and I would love a cd of them from you, Shawn...hint hint
and yes Danny, he's serious. I couldn't get my open 50cc monster to run, and I couldn't get my a/c 6.2 that I bought from you to run either, so I borrowed a 6.2 from Shawn that I had never ridden before. I missed qualifying because of the bike failure, so I started in last place and had to work my way up to the front. I earned every bit of that win
Congrats from AZ, always great to here tales of the races. Now I wasn't around WAAAAYYYYY back when there was no T.V.. But from what I've heard the elders say you actually had to listen to know what happened Its like your on the edge of your seat waiting to find out whats next. Your success is definitely our success....Juniors Hey Christopher serious?? Just a walk in the park Take Care.... Shawn did you get some pics?
Yes Danny, We have lots of photos that still need to get filtered through. They will be posted pretty soon. Although I haven't seen them yet I hear that there is a good frame by frame crash shot in the eastern hairpin. I will work on it tonight when I get home.
Hey, I was just excited.... never did I think it wasn't an earned win. You didn't just publically put down a bike I sold you, did you? Maybe the sun needs to come out a bit more where your at...No worries though, plenty of others to be exited with
Actually Danny I will take the heat for Christophers mechanical failures last weekend. The R-1 was good but the tape I used to hold the motor in failed. I am fixing the bike tonight for him but will use doubled up zip ties and some JB weld in the critical areas. He will be in good shape before next weekends race.
PS; Let me know if you need anything fixed!!
I wasn't meaning to say anything bad about my R1s, yours or my other one. The mechanical failures were with Polini parts and had literally nothing to do with you, the previous owner of my other bike, Mr. Giannini, or Shawn. If I had anything against the bike, I sure would have begged & borrowed another one, then went and won a race on it. It should be a testament to the fact that with the Giannini 6.2, winning an open class or super proddy race should be enough to show I wasn't putting it down at all!
Correction on my opening post & posted officially on OMRRA:

Sorry for spelling Mario's last name incorrectly, and Peter took 2nd wih Mario 3rd in Jr. GP race. Again, like Jr. GP Open, it was nearly a photo finish.
Keep it coming and where are the pic's?
Mine are on nwpocketbikes.org
I had no idea your site was out there. Thank you Brian, not only for the site, but for all of the photo's you have taken, volunteering on the track, and anything else you see that needs to be done. You really are an asset to our org.

Giannini doesn't produce a proddy bike being that all the bikes from the air cooled to the Opens come w/ the same race pipe...

actually no, my open bike and my air cooled bike have 2 different pipes. There are no race organizations on this side of the country who think that an R1 or R2 air cooled 6.2 is an open class bike. That's pretty much silly, and off topic for this thread.
Where are we talking about a prody bike?? Although we do have a Production class for seniors in both OMRRA and NWMRL, no one ran any of them last year or this year. For seniors we run Senior Super Production and Open. End of story please move along..lol
