4 stroke 49cc semi manual how to change gear???????

i have a 49cc 4 stroke semi manual . do i let loose of the throttle when i change gear with my left foot? or go full throttle and change gear with my left foot? and do i need to always start out in neutral then kick it to 1st gear? can i just start on first gear? please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
