Bike Problem Resolve...HOW TO

Alright, after many problems with the fuel system on my new CAG I decided I would share with you the common problems I came accross.

Hard Lessons Learned: If it aint broke, dont fix it...one of the first things I did wrong was start to take apart my PERFECTLY running bike. IT was running 27 WOT with no bogging or cutting out...well I messed with the needle....got it 2 rich...then I had to lean it back out a day later and BAM...lost the clip...so theres problem number one....I had to spend $1 on a new E-CLIP at NAPA...then baught some extras for 50c offline. Anyways, why did I take it apart? It was perfect!

Also the second mistale I made was replacing the fuel line...I thaught the blue would look "cool" and ended up putting it on knowing it might not work bc my bike was stock and this line had High Flow....I couldnt even use my clamps on it because the walls were so thin. I had to replace it because air kept getting in the line, that lead to a messy situation with gas going everywhere because I was too lazy to drain the tank...anyways..lol.

So your gas is leaking? Well if your gas is leaking and you absoutley KNOW that you havent messed with the float then dont re adjust...this ends up taking more time because you are trying to fix the wrong problem....If its over flowing out of the over flow tube, well the needle is not shutting that the float pushes on. Therefore it could be...SOMETHING CLOGGING THE NEEDLE HOLE! I just knew mine wasnt the needle hole...so here I go messing with the float adjustments...stopped leaking for awhile...and well IT ended up causing me to take it apart again because there was something in the hole. My o-ring for my petcock had ripped up and was in there....By the way a #8 size o-ring/PARKER seal is what you should use for your new o-ring...works like a charm.

Braaaaaaaaaaaaaaaap... Broooooooooooooougggggggggg: BOGGING: So your bike is bogging and you have a feeling that its not your clutch? Well is gotta be fuel flow....Think. Have your recently added a mod to your bike? Have you installed a new fuel line/filter? Taken apart yuor carb? Got trash in your tank? If you have any of these check for blockage...Ususally it will be in the line or carb...but on some occasions it can get in your filter. If your petcock is hard to turn its more than likely the o ring is broke....this will restrict fuel flow and will cause the bike to cut out after a few seconds of riding. Replace it with the #8 o-ring as mentioned above. Also if your bike is leaking gas the ripped o-ring will cause this also.
If you adjust your floats to much and bend the forks down more than needed it can cause your flota bowl not to fill up as fast as the bike needs to, causing cutting out at higher speeds and after so many feet.

PLugs: Perfect jetting will be on the medium tannish/brown side.

RIch will be a black and/or oily plug.

Lean will be whiter in color. A chalky white that an scrape off is a sign of overheating.

____________

To check your spark , take the plug out of the cylinder....hold on to the rubber cap the the plug pops in to, place the tip of the plug on the cylinder where you can see it and then do as if you were starting your engine...you should ee a constant , blue spark. Just some tips to check before you post abnout your troubles so you wont have to wait for a reply.

Float Adustment 101....If your needle is clean and all else has failed...adjust your floats. If your bike is leaking out of the over flow tube pull the 2 metal fork like pieces down towards the BOTTOM of the float bowl...This will allow your needle to close stopping flow when the bowl is full. If your bike is bogging like its starving for fuel every now and then and it starts rite back up after it quits Bend the two metal pieces up...They can go up PRETTY FAR as long as they are below the carb area the gasket sets on...It wont over flow if the needle is clean of debree. The float should be FLAT SIDE UP when putting in the bowl.
