Brand new bike, engine seized?

So, I just bought a brand new, in box bike, today. Got it to my shop. Mixed the gas, 25:1. Triple checked that. Filled the tires, and fired it up. 3 pulls. I was impressed. As it idled, I tightened screws, and what not. Took it for a little spin. Low throttle cruise. After a few minutes, it CLICKED really loud, and stalled. Now the starter wont pull, and after taking it off, the engine cant even be turned over by hand, with the spark plug out...

What did I do?!?!

Remove the pullstarter housing and inspect the coil attachment screws...If they are loose the pickup coil must be regapped with a true business card.......Peace

Re: Brand new bike, engine seized?

another name for that part is magneto, right? that looked tight. i visually checked it... didn't consider it being loose.

once it got cool, i was able to turn the engine by hand a bit... but it sure scraped.... it can't be seized can it? if anything i had more oil than needed. but not by much.

it's a giovanni.

Re: Brand new bike, engine seized?

The pickup coil and the magneto arent supposed to touch at all...these bikes arent built very precisely and quality control is done a bunch of 9 year olds if any is done at all....Theres a chance you have a badly deformed flywheel which isnt too surprising..Are there any hit mark scrapes from the pickup coil on the magneto? If so youll have to loosen the screws, take a true business carb and place it between the pickup coil and magneto with the magnet facing the pickup coil tighten the attachment screws and pull out the card and then see if that fixes your problem.....................Peace

Re: Brand new bike, engine seized?

hmm... i'll take a look tomorrow. thanks so much guys. this guy i got it from has a 'no refunds' policy, but i only had it 45min before i called him, so maybe i can get a refund... or exchange. i'm hoping i can fix it, as it was the last street bike he had. all that was left was dirt bikes.

i'm gonna look at it tomorrow, but if anyone has any ideas, jot 'em here, and i can check more things at once!

Re: Brand new bike, engine seized?

May need to break down and pull the cylinder off it, see if it broke a piston ring. If it did, there's a big part of the problem ... Not saying that could be the only thing wrong with it, just one of the things that it could be.

Re: Brand new bike, engine seized?

Nah, Just time to buy all those new mods like a big bore, high compression, head kit ( which comes with piston, rings, and all gaskets needed ) new reeds and a performance exhaust.

You might wanna send boosted306 a pm and get a performance head kit and a ported & re-jetted stock carb from him.

Not your fault your engine blew up and you have to add more power to it using performance parts

Re: Brand new bike, engine seized?

i like the whole modding it idea.... i'm just so choked that the engine only has 15 minutes of run time on it. it makes a definite scraping noise when turning the crank by hand, and it only seems to want to turn one way.

and it died while running, with a big fat CLUNK. and then i was able to pull the starter half way out, then only 1/4, then it wouldnt move...
it also seemed more gutless than my friends bike, same brand, and engine size... i'm wondering if it was the clutch...

what's he charge for that kit? anyone know offhand?

and does it make it that much quicker?

Re: Brand new bike, engine seized?

Tell you what, you pick up ANYTHING from Sam, he'll do ya right .... He's got a buncha tricks up his sleeve to make these two-strokers sit up and bark.

The "gutless" thing might've been over-jetting, too much gas to the carb, or not enough. I'd say over-jetted - just had a bike with the same problem.

Pull your clutch cover off, see if anything's come loose in there. If not, put it back on, and pull the cylinder. May as well know for sure what you're up against .....

Like someone else said check the clutch. A spring may of broke and has wedged it's self inbetween the pad and drum.

Re: Brand new bike, engine seized?

hooray! i got it fixed!

it was the head gasket. it was put on sloppy in the factory, and it got stuck on the sides of the piston. i had to do a little grinding and polishing, but i got it back together, and took the bikes for a rip. i forgot how fun they are!

Re: Brand new bike, engine seized?

OUCH thats seized badly! if you can feel anything in the barrel then replace it and the piston as well before it grenades itself again. those parts are so cheap you'd be silly not to!

have fun

Re: Brand new bike, engine seized?

i cant REALLY feel anything. i buffed the barrel out pretty good.

a question i have is, are most of these bikes parts interchangable? i have 2 other ones, that are just parts. i think one has a good head, etc.

and, is there anything i can do to a cylinder, to make it have more power? like make it a Hemi...? hahah. my buddy asked me that, and i didn't have a definitive answer for him.

Re: Brand new bike, engine seized?

problem is when you sieze it bad enough to require grinding it back the nicasil is damaged in the bore and its no good anymore whatever you do to it bar having it rebored and plated. but whos gunna do that on a $20 barrel

all the cag parts are interchangable as far as im aware. so go ahead and put the top end from your spare parts bike on the siezed one. just make sure the "new" one isnt siezed as well. alot are 'cause people start them and gun them straight away which cold siezes the engine.

plenty you can do to a 2 stroke cylinder as well. changing the squish height, port timings, adding boost ports tinkering with the exhaust ports and cleaning up + matching the transfer ports to the crankcases. you could waste away alot of time getting one perfect
