what is it

It is the FUEL FILTER & your lucky it didn't catch fire when it melted. When you replace it the thing tie it off with a zip tie so that won't happen again!

The thing you are referring to is a fuel filter. You can buy one at any motorcycle shop for less than $2.00. Turn the gas off, squeeze the clamps with pliers to loosen them, slide them up the hose, out of the way. Pull the hose off the filter and replace. Try routing your fuel line so that the new filter does not come in contact with the exhaust, otherwise it may melt all the way through and set you on fire. (Fire is bad).

While you are replaciong the fuel line go to a smalll engine shop and pick up a small in-line fuel shut-off valve for 6.00.
It really helps alot when R/R the carb.Plus you never need to use the stock petcock to shut-off the fuel.
