Carb problem

I let a buddy port my carb because he said he new what he was doing. He races dirt bikes. I thought Id give him a chance , but when I got my carb back the port is very large I put the slide in and looked through with a flash light on the other side and can see 3 slices around the slide. Is the carb junk now? Ive done some searching and come to the conclusion it will idle very high. Is there something I can do to save it? Please help.

have you tried installing it and running the bike yet? how big did your friend go on the porting? can you post pictures of it by any chance with the slider down so we can see how much gap it has?

No not yet I will sometime today . My camera is broke so no pictures sorry. With the slider down I can see aprox. 1 to 2 mm gap on the sides and maybe a little more on the bottom. I have a dremel kit and it has one of the sanding drums which I measured to be about 14 to 15 mm diameter it slides in easily in the front side and just barely in the back. It looks like he somewhat tapered it out. I know that its rough measurements but its the only thing I have thats round too compare with.

There are other threads about porting a stock carb they say to use a 9/16 drill to port your carb I found that to be to big I use a 35/64 bit that brings the bore to 14mm and is perfect for slide fit. Also some racing classes don't allow a carb bigger than 14mm. I find these carbs to work better than most after market carbs out there.

good news I think?

Well I tried the carb on my other bike which is completely stock, my bike is in pieces. With the slide all the way down it idles low enough with pressure on the bike it just barely wants to move, thats with all stock jets and needle in stock position, so if I adjust the needle to the 5th position that would fatten up the idle mixture a little right. Which would probably lower the idle a little more, please correct me if Im wrong. On a another note Im getting the banshee clutch for cags so even if I cant lower the idle anymore I can have the clutch engage later so it wouldnt matter the idle is a little high.

glad to see that the idle isn't too bad that the bike wants to take off on its own. true that the 5th may help with the high idle but then again, the bike may run rich throughout the rest of its throttle... performance "may" differ with the needle in the 5th.

I'd go head with the banshee adj clutch. it will give you a better neutral spot for your idle, plus you can adjust the clutch to respond better, stronger launch!
