Re: Cheap Reed Mod for Cag!

i heard about another reed mod...you flip the reeds around so it flows better. but you have to trim the reed stopper. or at least thats what he told me. has anyone else done this? and if so how much does it improve performance. and what the H3ll is the reed stopper haha

Re: Cheap Reed Mod for Cag!

today im going to mill out the read block so the inlet holes are bigger, and sand back the stopper to allow the reeds to open wider.

ill let everyone know how well this mod works.

Re: Cheap Reed Mod for Cag!

Hey guys, heres an idea. How about making it similar to a Boysen power reed. drill a 1/4 inch hole in each of the fiber reed petals 2/3's of the way down from the top where the screws go and place the stock metal reed behind it. The idea is that the stock reeds breathe through the drilled holes at low rpm's and the fiber reeds open at higher rpm's . If you need more power at low rev's then make the drilled holes oval with a dremel or file. Also shim the stopper out with a washer or two so the reeds open farther, but check the clearance by rotating the crank. Those Boysen power reeds work like magic on dirt bikes (2-strokes).Just a thought.

hey, sorry it has taken me so long to reply to you guys with questions. My comp has been acting funny. I will have to redraw on read diagram, but this one i found. I will be posting the other one again. I had did it in ms paint and attached it to this thread but i suppose during the changes to the forum, it was lost.

now for the good part!!!! its about $30 for a sheet of polini reed which is enough to make about 5-6 cag reeds so by buying it making a few you can then sell them for a cheap price and get all your money back so its free! cant get any better then that for that cheap lol

ohh and about the ada cage center bars cut with polini blues thats the ultimate not the cheapest besides Gianninis stuff.
well if anyone decides to make these(^^^^) i would defiinately take some.
But other then that i tried the cheep reed mod, left the spacer and its working great. You can tell there is a difference in the middle/top end. I love it

Re: Cheap Reed Mod for Cag!

not sure witch one that link specifies, it was kind of generic for me. But from what i saw, the polini material looks good. Look back on this post a bit to see what was suggested.

Re: Cheap Reed Mod for Cag!

I ran my modded reeds (one fiberglass & one metal) for almost 7 months of racing b4 they failed. I was going to make a new modded set, but didn't have any more stock reeds either. So I went ahead and shelled out the dough to get the carbon fiber, I don't notice a proformance difference, but they are supposed to last longer.
