Will it hurt the low end power at all?

Re: Cheap Reed Mod for Cag!

Just did the mod...
I cut the stock reed with scissors, then sanded it smooth.
Nice.
Wayyy more revs than using the stock reed.
I used a Polini blue CF reed for my Jog that I reshaped to fit the PB.

Air cleaner --> carburetor --> intake manifold --> reed block --> reeds (under curved reed stop) --> engine case

Re: Cheap Reed Mod for Cag!

You don't need the Black Widow reed to do this mod. Look at the picture on the first page, and make the appropriate cuts with tinsnips. By the time you finish, the reed will look approximately like the top reed on a Black Widow set.

Re: Cheap Reed Mod for Cag!

harley.craig91@hotmail.com

let me see if i have this i dont know whos mod this was or what its called im getting mixed up with all the different ones going around in here but here we go. when the cf that i just ordered (^) comes i will take off the old dual reeds cut the center post out of the reed block then cut the cf to cover the newly opened up reed block. also i might space the reed stop as well. i was also thinking of drilling a small hole or 2 in the new cf reed and cut the old stock reed to cover the holes. someone mentioned earlier that this woul help for bottom end power?!?! is this to much tenson on the near stock 47cc??if this is correct ill be making as many as cf sheets that i ordered allows for. after i test it on my bike and am happy i will sell them to anybody that wants one.oh and if someone could verify that the cf i ordered is indeed the proper material, i got kind of anxious and rushed my purchase.

davation, this is EPR, thanks for that info, I put carbon reeds on mine, but
I cut about an eight of an inch off the top of the alum. reed stops, and....
ground them back about .090", I am building a duel eng, Big Bore Engines,
I only have 2 starts for 5 mins. on engine #1 and it will not start now, an
new it started on the 6th pull, & the carb. keep over flowing!! I have'nt
had to to look at it Yet!! I think the main jet fell off, cause it was running
Great, then it stopped, had the main jet off before & I did not tighten it
very good!!! Anyway, Thanks for the info, EPR!

Re: Cheap Reed Mod for Cag!

I got my CF reeds from Dave's Motors, $9.50. For that triangle, I already have several, but can probably build one now ...

Re: Cheap Reed Mod for Cag!

sr20hardbody,
You still around, I'm EPR, cutting out the center reed blocks
sound good, the flow still has to go pass the reed surface! I
put a full circle crank, in my 44mm Eng. and there is only a
small area between, If I beveled the 2 inside edges of the
crank would that help Flow, I need Max Flow, New Carb????
Help EPR!

sr20hardbody's on now and then, haven't seen him in a while. Might want to shoot a message to Boosted306, see if he can help out with some of your questions, too.

Re: Cheap Reed Mod for Cag!

It may accelerate a bit slower, but the overall performance gains are worth it. When you have your bike running WOT, there won't be any (or very little) top end reed flutter, and you should notice a much smoother powerband all the way up to top end.

In other words, when ya wind it all the way out, the bike ain't gonna bog down on ya at WOT, so ya can keep going longer .......
