Question Different Clutch, No Timing key ????

K, I just bought a rocket key and the (3) race clutch springs (or so the store called it) upon opening the clutch cover.........HMMMM.....There's only one spring in the middle holding the clutch together. I was like OK, so I remove the clutch and no woodruff key to replace with the rocket key.

I've only seen the clutches with the three springs circling the clutch and in the back followed by the woddruff key. Is this type of clutch bad, can I replace it with the standard clutch or would the tranny not accept it because there is no place to put the woodruff key...

Also the pinion gear ripped from clutch housing......which sux...is this caused by this type of clutch

please help

I just ran into this at the races.....my clutch broke all apart...So I went to change the complete clutch assembly....the new clutch set up had no groove for the woodruff key....so I just took out the woodruff key...and put on the clutch...tightened down ...and was good to go.....

Just to clarifiy....Rocket key is on the pullstarter side...It's to advance the timing...Some guys said it didn't do any good...so they took it back out....That's only what I heard...

you dont need the key in the clutch, it will be ok as long as you tighten it up really good, the rocket key goes on the flywheel side.
the pinions do break, that is just the quality of it, but i have a pretty fast motor and i havent broke one, just rough riding will do it and if your chain is not set right.

The bike is an HF, but I just heard is that the clutch looks like a cateyes cltuch which has the single spring in the middle. By the way the bike is on the Evelocita post.......just got to search option Evelocita.....pics are on the 5th page i think

hold the crank and turn the flyeheel in the direction of engine rotation until the key fits
It advances the timing
