Dirty Mods, Done Dirt Cheap.

For all those like minded individuals that bought a cag because they were cheap and want to keep it that way. Lets post up your homemade creations of powered perfection.

Here's a couple of mine.... A modded stock pipe, and some velocity stacks.

My muffler broke off the other day so I decided it was high time to cut the exhaust system into bits and weld it back together. I shortend the header, added some belly, and made a new stinger out of thicker walled pipe (that stocker was sad) Getting the lousy two inches of pipe out of your divergent cone is worth the work all by itself.

what are those velocity stacks? are they actual velocity stacks? or did you use something that was originally designed for something else?

Remove the base gasket for more compression. Use hi-temp silicone instead. Not home made but cheap!

They started as a piece of round aluminum billet. I didn't see any cag ones I liked so I made my own from scratch.

The budget air filter mod is great. I also did some porting myself with a die grinder. I may go back in to add a boost port, not sure yet. I lightened my flywheel. And I also am looking at making a timing mod. I made my own rocket key and it works but I'm not wild about the concept (weaker key).

I take it you were also thinking about a sliding magneto bracket?

The sliding magneto bracket would be awesome if you could get it to stay close enough to the flywheel throughout the whole range, the trick would be to make it like spring loaded or something so that it takes out the timing advance as you reach top rpms.

Im not 100% sure which route i wanna go with bumping up the timeing i figured once i took the flywheel off to do the lighting to it a have a look and get some ideas,my original one is to make my own rocket key seems simple enough.

On yamaha blasters we slot the stator so we can advance the timing without a key id amagine kinda like the magneto trick ur talking about.

Oh sure... now they want vacuum advance on a magneto.... hehehe.

That is food for thought though. Maybe some kind of wind powered advance mechanism like the gov on a briggs would work.

<elton john music> like a paddle in the wind.

Yes... I'm one sick puppy... But the voices keep me company...

Ya, except there isn't really enough room to slot the mount holes which are too big already (bad for induction). So you would have to make a sliding bracket to mount the mag on. Or sliding inductor pieces under the stock magneto ones. Either way it was a bit tricky, so I just made a rocket key for now. I think mines a little tamer than most at 4-5 degrees advance.
