Yea, i've never heard one without a silencer because most come with pipes, but yea are you talking about the one from ddm? cause i have no idea about all that, but yea if you pack it with steel wool it's a big help i guess

Re: does a silencer really work on a cag

Far as I know, all Cags come with stock silencers already mounted on the exhaust pipe. Both of mine did, although I did the spraycan mod on one of them - check my signature for a link to my thread, and pictures of the spraycan on my bike. Can you give us a link or a picture of the silencer you're talking about?

for the purpose of silencing the exhaust....steel wool will work~! but there won't be a huge difference, the fact is 2 stroke engine is always loud~!

I just took off the 2 cans on my exhaust and there is no silecing materal. Also should the pipe not have holes drilled in them where the cans slip over?Mine do not.If so how big and how many and where

Re: does a silencer really work on a cag

No packing in the muffler? That sounds familiar ...... several guys have gotten brand-new factory bikes, and they also came with no packing. Get some steel wool and put it inside the muffler. The holes in the pipe help deaden the exhaust sound by pushing it out into the packing instead of out the end of the pipe. Where? All over .... just don't drill so many that it sacrifices the structural integrity of the pipe (as in make it weaker).

Re: does a silencer really work on a cag

Thanks my bike is only a couple months old and I wasn't surprised at no packing but was that the pipe was not drilled. My neighbour had an old pipe so I drill the holes like his. There are 6 ,1/4" holes on each pipe, offset about every 3rd of the way around. It sounds better now.I used some pipe packing he had for his dirt bike.Think steel wool is better?

pipe packing is better, but steel wool is cheaper, so thats why everyone uses steel wool

Re: does a silencer really work on a cag

hi im a little new but i found out a small mod for my cag... i bought it from someone that had it for six years...well then... the silencer on my cag was welded on...so i took a pepsi can played around with it and cut a hole on the bottom big enough for the pea shooter exhaust but tight enough for it to stay on...the top i used a can opener (manual one) and took the top off and cut 4 slits on it...like a square 1 in each corner only there are no corners...if u want more info just replly me back ill be posting some pictures soon

it is just called a spray can mod. You can use whatever can that you like. See the avatar picture from SpyGuy, he has one on.

Re: does a silencer really work on a cag

Typically fiberglass is used for sound reduction in mufflers i.e. 'glass packs' The kind they use is a bit pricier then the standard house type insulation. I have a Supertrap on one of my vintage motorcycles that uses fiberglass. You would need to pack the fiberglass TIGHTLY around something like a screen tube to keep it intact. Most commercial mufflers use some type of pressed steel tube with louvers press cut in.

i know what u mean... but its not exactly the same... i still have the stock silencer on my bike because it is welded on... so i took a can had the small hole end go up towards the tip of the pea shooter pipe... then the rest on the silencer...works

What bike do you have, pbfunrider? Mine is a (more-or-less) stock Cag/Daytona, 47cc, stock exhaust.
