Fork mod

Ok for those of you who read my last post " A thought on reeds..." I mentioned a fork mod that I did that increased cornering stability. Well this mod is simple and reversable if you don't like it. Its easy, it started when I striped my bike to a rolling chasis. I noticed that the front is kind of high so I thought about it a bit. I figure the bikes are modled somewhat after a real bike so the probably put a bike on a stand and started coping it. Well when they got to the front forks the just made some forks that made the pb sit like the full sized bike. This is where they made the mistake. The real bike has shocks that compres when you go around a corner but the pb dosen't. So the pb sits "tall" no matter what your doing. Any way so I loosend the front tire and the fork steering suports and droped the forks low enough to pull off the handel bars. I then put the forks back up thrugh the suports and without the handel bars. I alowed the forks to go past the top suport about 2-3" and put the handel bars on top of the suport. This did 2 things I liked. 1-Lowered the front end and made the bike more balanced during cornering. 2-moved up the handel bars to a more fitting position for me. My knees can go under my arms now so I can finaly knee slide. If you think you'll like this mod try it! It only takes a few mins. and you can tell a big diffrence!

I will post some pics as soon a I figure out how to.

deym thats hella creative..never would of thought about that.. when you say more stable during cornering, would that mean like i can increase my track times by going faster in the turn..

he let the fork legs come up..so he loosened both the triple clamp thing and slid the forks up 2-3 inches...letting the front end sit lower..well ill leave it to samuri for a better explanation

I just did the same thing you did last week to my half fairing cag but I haven't gotten' around to riding it yet since I pulled out the motor. as soon as I get it running again, hopefully it will handle better? but I'll take your word for it samuri cuz great minds think alike... lol j/k

I'm going to try it on my full fairing tomorrow.

by moving the handle bars up above the triple tree, the minimum you could lower the bike is about 1.75" because the thickness of the top bar and the handlebars so wont the pegs hit the ground really early on the lean though?

I've Tried This And Yes It Moves The Pegs Closer To The Ground ,but The Foremost Thing Is By Lowering The Front You Decrease The Rake Thus Making The Bike Turn Faster And Rail Corners Like It On Rails.

But At Top Speed On A Long Straight You Can Get Speed Wobles Very Easy Even With My Size/weight 5'11'' 185lbs It Was Very Twichy At Speed.

If You Just Move Up The Fork Legs Just A Little At A Time You Can Get It Very Close To Perfect Handling And Straight Line Stable, try About 10mm At A Time For A Good Baseline.

Good Luck .

You do get more speed wobbles but they don't bother me. I think it’s a fair trade off, more agile cornering for a little bit of the wobbles at high speeds. And actually the pegs are not much closer to the ground than before, maybe a 5 degree loss in cornering. I mounted my handle bars on top of the support so it was a bit more comfy.

A steering damper would probably correct that.

Your forks look like they came off of a chopper bike! Did your bike come like that?
Unless this is an optical illusion, there's way to much space between your front tire and the exhaust pipe. Lowering would definately help in this case.

[edit] Wait a second! Are the forks attached in the first picture?

The rake on some non-"SQ" HF cags and FF cags are angled more than my "SQ" HF cag giving it a longer wheelbase. I myself prefer the shorter wheelbase cause it has much better conering abilities. The cag Mr.Samurai pictured looks ridicuously long. I don't think I recall ever seeing a cag rake that much.

if he turned the legs around so the axle was trailing behind the fork it would tighten up the rake quite a bit

I already tried that. I didn't like the handaling. It seems my bike is diffrent from the others. Mine is suposed to be a 2005 model mayby that is the diffrence? I don't really care though, the bike runs, goes fast, and zips around corners (even more now than ever)!

there are no model years. theres 40 different manufacturers in china that build these "cagllari" bikes. and theyre all different.

I knew that I just forgot the "" in my post. according to the guy I got the bike off of on ebay it was a 49cc(its realy a 47cc) 2005 model(no such thing) That goes 40 stock(maby if you let a 10lbs baby ride it) and has a tuned pipe on it (just a pipe designed to make the bike louder) But dispite all this my bike is a good bike. It is my first pb so I don't have a clue what its like to ride a 12.5hp ponili or anything but it seems powerful enough. My freind is saving for a new ts iron cross motor from hpminimods.com can't wait till he has the $$ for it! There are some parts up for grabs from his old motor if any one is intrested the parts are motor case, head, piston, carb, and reed block. email me if you are intrested He is willing ot give up all the parts listed for $50.

Do you have any problems with the rear being loose on you? It seems by lowering front you put more weight on the front and less weight on the rear.

I doubt it is really 47cc, they are mostly like ~38cc or something around there.
