I need to know where I can purchase some STRONGER and better quality wheel bearings. The stock ones arent just working for me. I've busted 2 already. Pretty scary, I know. Thanks

Re: Help!

How did you break them? Over-tightening, or riding?

Re: Help!

Okay, yes, you can break the bearings from over-tightening. Usually, there's a metal spacer that goes inside the wheel from the inside of one bearing to the inside of the other, and the bearing rest against this. What can happen is, when you're tightenening up the wheel without this center tube, you're actually trying to pull the insides of the bearings towards each other, which can make them buckle inwards and eventually fail.

What you can do is find a tube that will fit over the axle, and is about the same size as the lip of the center of the bearing. Take your wheel off, and take out the bearings. Now, look at where the bearings go into the rim - see that little lip? It's a stop so the bearings stay on the outside. Measure from one stop to the other - that's how long you need to have that tube cut to fit inside the wheel bearings when they're installed.

Re: Help!

Thankyou spyguy. I installed a inner wheel tube, put in another stock bearing, avoided over tightening the axle and voila! Everything works well and no signs of wear on the bearings. Thanks again

Been there, done that ... that's how I figured out what had happened. It's called "pre-loading."
