Lightened flywheel Idea.

He my friend lightened a flywheel for me and it worked BAD AZZ! He basically took some material off the edge so where the magnets are is now the edge of the flywheel. My bike gained 500 RPM unloaded and about 350 RPM loaded. I used a GPT tach for all my testing. And best of all you can now set your coil gap VERY EASILY. since the edge of the flywheel is no longer there to hide it. Heres some pics incase you guys wanna do this to your flywheel. i'm sure anyone with acces to a machine shop could do it.

were doing that now on a race motor and are trying to get even more material off. For someone who has lots of time on their hands could remove material from the top portion of the fins

i guess you can do that but the fins are there for cooling...ive never tried it to see if it hinders performance or cooling so maybe you can try it

lol @ Chris pretending he's busy. btw, you got that dyno yet? We really have to get the temp probes out and do some measurements before and after these flywheel mods.

I think "THE MAN" sent it to another dimension. the top of the fins on my flywheel weren't cut that much maybe 1/8" - 1/4".
Than "no fin" flywheel looks sweet. But definatly have somethin to moniter head temps when testing it.

Can't really tell what i'm looking at? did you shave off all the fins, take the pull start off and make your own cover? what kind of flywheel is that it don't look like a stock one.

everybody scratches there head when they look at it LOL ,it is like the pic blan has (it was a stock flywheel) but i modded it by removing the catches, fins, and machining the OD down and machined a cone for the electric starter.

did you use an old scooter head for the cag? i've found that honda spree nq50 heads have the same bolt pattern.

It was made for my motard, it's got a big scooter head, runs on methanol and the cylinder is turned 180 degrees so the exhaust header is not heating the air before it hit's the head, still i would not stand around idling else it would get hot fast.

fixo, i like the cone idea, what compression is the head running and does the starter start it easy?

i'm running about a 15:1 .yes the starter works well, i use a ford relay switch on the back of the starter and a micro switch to activate it.....my main problem was early on, the stock pull starter was a peace of shi& and also stuck out on the right side which made it easy to drag a peg on right turns. i'm now able to bring in the peg tighter to match the other side..i made the over size head to be able to eliminate the fan and lighten the flywheel my next mod is to adapt a polini pull starter ...i speak up on some of my mods because most of what i have done is being made in the after market world now...i have adapted a ysr style reed block and mikuni 16mm carb and works well. i'm now working on a new reed assembly and a new and improved head...
