major vibrations after 10 mins of riding

I've seen some talk in general about vibrations on the bike but i'm trying to figure out how to fix it specifically.

it seems today's riding session made me a little bit more aware of how much vibration i was getting...and not at first. The bike rode fine at firstfor about 10 mins and everthing was smooth...acceleration, running...but then all of the sudden, the sucker starts vibrating like pump cavitating...like out of rhythm. when i look at engine as i twist the throttle, the whole engine was making so much racket, i thought it was going to dig potholes in the asphalt.

Now this is my Cag Mx3 - with the pipe and carb upgrade. My stock cag (with removable swing arm, i will call it RSA), starts to do it in about 30 mins but not nearly as bad. Infact, funny strange, my buddy was ridding the mx3 along with me riding the rsa and make a coment like "man, this bike vibrates so much it's making my a$$ cheeks involuntarily squeeze!"...dont know what to make of that one but we'll keep it as one man's analogy.

I figure if these things have vibrating problems, it would always be vibrating, not after 10 -20 mins...Any ideas?

I read some post where ppl were putting rubber or neoprene washer but is this what everyone was refering to?

Top motor mount might be broken in addition to loose engine mount bolts.

****it! I was afraid of that. I just pulled off the faring and yep, motor mount is broken.

So what do i do now? new frame? rewelded? Maybe i can get a removable swingarm frame and put all my parts on that one. Maybe part it out?

Any ideas?

why buy a new frame.. thats like saying "DAMMIT!! the bolt on my chain guard came loose.. oh well i better buy a new bike.. too bad.. this one was running sooo good..

just take it to a muffler place n get them to weld the sh*t outta it.. if it falls off again then make a new bracket and bolt it on this time.. one lil busted weld is no reason to get a new frame.. cuz that one will prolly just break anyways.. if other welds start breaking.. THEN consider a new frame.. but u can always just get all the welds strengthed for probably a fraction of the cost of gettin a new frame..

my advise is to spend as little money as possible on these bikes.. they're just not worth spending alot on.. especially if its just sumthin tiny like the motor mount broke..
next time dont tighten it so much..

peace.

Right on bro, ya got a good point. I was thinking before of getting a better made frame (like the one with removable swingarm), but i'm gonna strip the bike and welds reinforced. I probably need to leave the engine on so that they could fabricate new bracket. Thanks!

I finally took mine to a local guy that does motor work on performance and it should be ready in a couple of days. He looked at stock welds and told me thats what they call "bird turd". He's going to reinforce all the welds and fit a better piece with a gromet for better vibration handling. My next step is to paint it...what kind of paint should i use? I want to paint it matte black.

by the way, i took apart the other my other bike to look at the welds. THis one looks a lot better on the outside but when i looked at the inside, it was a cheap job and some places looked like they missed. The frame is aluminum so i dont think it's weldable. Here are some picts? Should i be worried?

Other than that and wobbly wheels, this bike is definitely the best for the $.

Ok. Here's the update.

I just got my Cag back from the welder's. Took so long because i was trying to get a good motor mount to keep from it happening again. The guy who worked on it is pretty awesome and he spends a lot of time making performance mods for dirtbikes, atvs, jetski's etc. Anyhow, he didnt want to weld it without making it work properly.

I finally got the mount and the welding done and i think this is what needs to be done with all my cags.

I've included pictures of the gromet(motor mount) and the weld itself. Next is to paint and them assemble!

Check it out and let me know what you'all think.

- Dan

I got it from a very well stocked Ace Hardware in Ft. Lauderdale. In the section where all the bolts were located under "motor mounts" bin. The size i used was 1/4 - 20 and cost about $3.29 per piece.

Good luck finding it.

On this bike, I'm running a Walbro 603 from an ADA high performance kit. I've also got a couple of other cags where i'm running the Walbro 668 and the 668 seems a lot easier to tune.
