| my first attempt at brazing.... So I went to Lowe's and picked up some Mapp gas and a a pack of 6 or so copper-based brazing rods (coated with flux, was all they had)...cost me around 13 bucks! (I used a propane torch that I already had, but it worked fine)
I started by grinding the areas around the connections with a dremel, then once I got the pipes clamped down I used an alcohol pad (from a first aid kit) to clean it up once more. It took me a while to get the pieces clamped down and in place, but once I did I started on the two straight cuts on the side to get it held in place so I can move it around more to work on the more difficult parts...
It is very ugly, but it works fine! Strong bond and no leaks.
I honestly don't know if this pipe is any good, I feel like I may have lost the slightest amount of power vs no pipe, but I guess that is to be expected. The nice thing is it sounds great!
Now I am thinking of making or buying a new air filter, fuel filter, and then whatever I can afford from there. I have a lot of expensive hobbies so I don't know how much money I will have to spend on this....
Oh yah...and on my first run around the block with it...both bolts fell out of the exhaust...I had to ride back around and thankfully found both bolts, th elock washers and the gasket...time to put some locktite on it...
