Ported Carb vs. Hp Carb

I'm debating whether or not to get a hp carb. Does the stock carb, port and polished, have good potential? I have a stock carb right now with new jets on the way. I'm thinking about doing 9/16 to 1/2 bore to give it a little taper. Would a Hp carb make any better gains?

A ported stock carb can run pretty good. If you have the tools to port it, take the time to port it out and put a $10 jet kit in it. You will get very close to the performance of the $80 carb kits for a lot less. I have tried both carbs and the Walbro does give a little more top end but the ported carb runs very good as well.

there a a few guys on here that carry these swingarm bikes...i think vinnie and sux2bu have 'em in stock...oh, and i don't know if he still has ones with bb motors left, but you can check with sux2bu. they are good guys to deal with also...don't have to worry about being ripped off like on ebay.
on a side note, i was thinking of boring my stock carb also..coincidently, i have the "lucky"(lucky b/c it came with the bb ) swingarm, and doing this will most likely help the motor. madpocketbike, what do i use to port the carb...a drill (i have a dewalt 18v), a dremel (i also have) or a drill press (i don't have)? also, do i just drill straight through enlarging the whole port, or taper from the outside in and get as deep/close to where the hole where the needle goes through? much appreciation for all the help...

stock reed cage even with center bar removed can only flow is 35cfm max and stock 13mm carb can flow 40cfm. Even with this extra air all it does is hit the cylinder case walls and disrupt airflow. I have been porting mine to 15mm and having pretty good results only with upgraded reeds.

Another thing you need to look at is the stock carb slide is 14mm so you can port it up to 13.5 or so and even then the carb slide passage is the bottleneck. We will have a four petal reed setup in 4 weeks that will handle a 15mm carb that we will also have out at the same time.
