Smile Ported Stock Carb

im going to port my stock carb and do the petcock mod tomorrow while i wait for my new dellorto rep to come in. i wanna do a test on both of them to which i like best. where should i start on the c clip and jet size, i have a 44mm bbk from ddm, sikk toys pipe with exhaust matched to exhaust port, C/F single petal Reed, Ngk plug and 6/66 gear ratio. i think my c clip is in the second to last spot which makes the needle shorter/richer. also any porting advice is appreciated, im using a drill press and dnt knw if i should use a pointed grinding cone stone, or a 9/16 drill bit. thanks guys

9/16" is what you want for drilling straight through the carburetor. On the mouth of the carb, use the grinder point to bell the mouth out even further.

Re: Ported Stock Carb

For the jet I would try a .68 or a .70 to start out with, and start out with the C-clip in the center position like this,

It should run and drive with these settings, Take it for a few runs and adjust it the way you like.

Re: Ported Stock Carb

ok i ran my bike today and all i can say is wow, it has great overall power and is very torquey and also has great throttle response thanks to davations reed mod which works wonders. i put my needle in the second clip from bottom(the pointy end) and a .68 jet. i did a plug chop with my barely used ngk and couldnt tell if it was rich or lean but it looked kinda dark brownish and was a little little wet. can you guys help me out on plug chopping cause i did it 3 times and couldnt tell, i just dont wanna be running lean and fry my motor but it wasnt blurbering like its rich and it wasnt pinging or jumping like someones kicking me from behind so its not lean either, should i put a .70 in and see if its better/wose? let me know im gonna play with it tomorrow.................................thanks

Re: Ported Stock Carb

Sounds like your running a little rich, ( I prefer to run a little rich, seems to help keep my engines running cooler) But you might foul your plug if it is running to rich.

Adding a .70 jet will only make it run richer and you don't want that.

I say run it like it is for awhile. If it is running as good as you say, then it must be adjusted pretty close to where it needs to be. Check the plug after a few days of riding, then see what color the plug is.
