Question Porting an Sendai, firefox A/C

Has anyone fixed the rough ports in an Sendai Taichi or Firefox?
I'm planning to make it flow better without making the ports bigger, just smoother.
If you have done that was the power improved so it was worth it, and did it became more fragile?

Re: Porting an Sendai, firefox A/C

I would first start off port matching the case to the head,if you look at the transfers on the head they are only about 2/3 the size of the case, also there is usually some rough spots on the cylinder side of the transfer ports that need to be cleaned off, you also need to make the oil hole in the piston to 2mm and a cm straight below it drill another 2mm hole, this is to help with the lubrication of the cylinder where the exhaust bridge is in the cylinder, this is a known HOT spot and it was a update straight from the engine manufacturers. I would also open up the reed section of the case a little bit, it really limits the amount the reeds can open, be careful not to open up reed section to much, the idea is to let reeds open freely not increase the case volume.
Make sure that you take your time in doing these procedures or you can have a really neat paperweight .I would also suggest you by a book on 2 stroke tuning to help.If you need any help with this let the forums know.

Re: Porting an Sendai, firefox A/C

Thanks.
It's not tuning the engine i'm thinking of.
It's more fixing the not so well designed bridge in the main ports. It shoud be shaped like a knife but it's about 3-4 millimeters wide from start and this is bad for the gas flow.
About polishing, it shoudn't be mirrorfinish but not so rough as it is now.

The main question is, will it become more fragile?

I've bough the bike from Mullerhawk so he fixed all the standard problems.

Re: Porting an Sendai, firefox A/C

When i first broke the engine on this specific Tai Chi i tried just to see if it was even possible to camfer the edges of the ports with any type of tool (the cylinder was shot anyway). I tried with the smallest add-on for a dremel. But there was no way you could reach inside. I also tried with finegrit sandpaper and a camfer tool, but it's was also too hard to reach down. I read a thread here how to do it, you will need a tool similar to a dentist drill. Very small and angeled at 90 degrees - you will also have to be very carefull due to the least amout of sliperage and you busted your cylinder for good.

I read in some old thread here that badazztoyz was selling a cylinders for the A/C C1 engines that has the ports fixed. So check with him before reinventing the wheel - it's more trouble than it's worth unless you have the right tools for the job. Or if you bribe a dentist to use his equipment .

It's theese bridges I'm going to grind down so they doesn't interrupt the gas flow so much.
Hopefully it doesn't have any negative effect on the reliability since I'm not doing anything inside the cylinder.

I had one of my dirtbike cylinders ported by Varner Motorsports. He is one of best 2 stroke motocross engine modders there is. He made that bridge or whatever that is called on my engine, round, but not knife-like, sort of like the roundness of a BB.

Ok. Thanks. That's worth a try. It's an spare cylinder so I'm not i too much trouble if I'll **** it up.
