Pull Start Pawl

Hey guys, I think my pawl on my pull start is wearing out. But ya how can i tell if it is? The egdes are not sharp they are wear down alittle. And when i pull my start it queeks and i think thats the reason it is because its going bad.. Has anyone eles had this problem? Also can i still ride my bike with it wearing down? This pawl will just effect the starting. Correct?

Re: Pull Start Pawl

YA it will just let go and you wont be able to start the bike. Besides that nothing bad will happen. You can get an aluminum pawl with an aluminum starter housing from daves motors pretty cheap.

Re: Pull Start Pawl

Daves has the eg805 'billet starter pawl' on sale for $8.00...
(and you might get some candy as well... )

Dave is hard to beat on the same parts sold elsewhere I have found.
Hope I helped some friend.

Re: Pull Start Pawl

I would guess that it would work fine...

I got one of the metal pullstart housings with the aluminum pawl with my engine that i got from Daves but so far I have not had to 'borrow' it as we have not screwed up the stock/plastic housing on our stock engine yet.

After reading a bunch of threads about pullstart problems, I try to make sure to never fully extend the rope, and to allow the pawl to fully engage before giving it the pull. I have had NO issues with the plastic parts as of yet but I have the metal parts waiting 'just in case' the stock parts do decide to take a dump. The parts appear to be the same except for the difference between metal and plastic FWIW...

IamCornholio and was tryin to help...
