silent pipes?

what pipes besides making my own quiet pipe would be the quietest? i really dont mind the power loss if there is any cause i can compensate for it with some performance parts possibly. Any links? Thanks!!!

Re: silent pipes?

To be fair, it's a two-stroke - two-strokers are always gonna be loud, no matter what you do to it. There are a few ways to help quiet things down, such as doing the spraypaint can muffler mod, as seen on my avatar bike.

Pretty much, here's the procedure:
-Take off your old muffler. Remove the cotter pin at the end of the pipe (get a replacement or two), slide the tension spring off, grab the muffler and slide it off the end of the pipe. Don't worry about the front muffler endcap, it's welded to the pipe.
-Now, you should be holding the muffler can and the stock rear endcap. Set the muffler itself aside, hang onto the endcap - you'll be needing it in a minute.
-If you have an EMPTY spraycan, pry off the top where the nozzle is, and cut the bottom off the can. (Make sure it's empty - put a heavy rubber band around the can lengthwise so it presses the nozzle down, and leave it outside until it stops hissing ... then leave it there for another five minutes to make sure.)
-Get out your tinsnips, you're going to do some trimming. Since the top of the can is too small to fit over the stock endcap, you have to widen the hole in the top of the can. Check frequently on fit using the rear endcap - it's the same diameter as the front one. You want the can to fit snugly around it. Once you get that done ....
-Now, grab the bottom of the can and your drill. Drill and cut out the bottom of the can to accept the stock rear endcap, also making sure that it fits snugly around the endcap.
-Slide the modified can onto your exhaust pipe. It should be a fairly tight fit on the front muffler endcap. What I like doing is tapping around the outside of the can with a hammer and flat chisel to insure a good seal on the front endcap.
-Fill the space AROUND the pipe (not IN it) with #3 coarse steel wool, foun at your local hardware store in the paint section. About two-three sheets should do it.
-Put the end of the can onto the pipe using the stock endcap. Secure using the tension spring and the cotter pin, just like the original one was.

Fire up your ride, and listen to the difference! As best as I can tell, there's really no power loss.

Re: silent pipes?

It'll bring it down some. Mine went from the annoying high-pitched whine down to a lower rumble .... Then again, I've got the idle turned so low on this thing that it doesn't make much noise until I start revving the engine.

X-18 exhaust? Probably had to do a little fabbing to get it to fit right.

Re: silent pipes?

Quick fix: 1 red bull can with top cut off, 1 hose clamp to attach, 1 screw driver to jab some holes in the side. Makes the exhaust gasses change direction one more time before exiting. That how we get the Db's down a bit for some of the tracks that we race at. You will lose some power though. Exhaust system design is one of the most important factors in getting a two stroke to go well.
